The newly crowned winner of The Masked Singer Australia, Cody Simpson, has revealed that he and girlfriend pop singer Miley Cyrus have both been sober for 4 months. According to Simpson, he started his sobriety journey the day he started filming the popular singing show.

Just a few weeks ago, the premiere season of the Australian version of The Masked Singer ended with the Robot winning it all. The Robot turned out to be none other than Cody Simpson, who was fresh off his Broadway run as Dimitri in the musical Anastasia. Simpson was already in the news after having recently gone public about his new relationship with the former Hannah Montana star. While fans may have been surprised by the revelation of his identity, it turns out one fan was not - his girlfriend. Simpson confirmed that he had, in fact, told his pop star paramour of his secret alter ego to explain his need to travel to Australia to promote the finale. While the two have shared a long-time friendship and experienced many of the same trials and tribulations while transitioning from teen sensation to adult star, the journey the new couple was about to embark on together was sobriety.

Simpson announced to his fans that he is four months sober, an announcement that comes just weeks after Cyrus made the same announcement as she hit the 4-month sobriety mark. On a recent appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, the 22-year-old singer said that he stopped drinking the day he started filming The Masked Singer. He credited that sobriety with playing a role in his ultimate victory on the show. While it appears the two started their sobriety journeys individually, it has definitely been a part of their relationship. Simpson even told People that they “found each other again in a space where we’re both not partying”. The pop star's manager, Matt Zeidman, previously expressed to People his positive reaction to the union and the sobriety saying, “Though they originally met during their own wilder phases, they’re both sober now and are focused on health, work and spending time together. Seems pretty ideal to me.”

The two went public with the relationship while the Australian singing competition was airing, but while Simpson's involvement in the show was still a secret. His recent relationship with Ali Lohan, sister of one of the show's judges, actress Lindsay Lohan, left for an awkward exchange after the reveal. And he wasn't the only one with past relationship drama. Their pairing came as 26-year-old Cyrus was rebounding from not one, but two high profile breakups. In August, she ended her 7-month marriage to actor Liam Hemsworth, and in September she ended a whirlwind romance with The Hills: New Beginnings star Kaitlynn Carter.

Despite this seemingly chaotic beginning, their past history and newfound sobriety seem to be what they needed to ground this new relationship. Since its debut, they have appeared in public together, and have also graced their fans with a steady stream of cozy social media posts. Whether the sobriety is a lifestyle they will embrace indefinitely or just the break they both needed to recuperate mentally and physically, it is clearly a positive for both of them. There is also no denying that Cody's performances on The Masked Singer were fantastic. Fans will not only be rooting for the couple, but also excited to see what Simpson, following his win, has up his sleeve next. Fans of The Masked Singer Australia may have to wait a while for season two, though they are in luck, as season 2 of the US version of the show is well underway.
