With the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine game in the hands of Insomniac, fans can't help but think of the epic battles they had as the web-slinger in Marvel's Spider-Man and wonder what they can expect from Logan's solo outing. One of the defining features of any good superhero is their rogues' gallery of deadly enemies waiting to thwart the hero at every turn. A hero can only be as good as their villain is bad, and considering how dark Wolverine is, his enemies have the potential to be incredible boss fights.

The recently announced Marvel's Wolverine will be the second entry into Insomniacs' shared Marvel video game universe. It is set to tie in with Spider-Man 2, recently announced to feature Venom and teased to include Kraven the Hunter as some of the villains players can expect to face. The Wolverine game has yet to offer up any details on what players can expect from his extensive list of lethal enemies, however. With those amazing boss fights from Spider-Man in mind, just who could Wolverine face off against in an equally epic battle? He certainly has a great number of villains who could make for unique and exciting challenges.

The Wolverine trailer offers some subtle hints to Logan's time spent in Madripoor. Having faced many enemies there, a few stand out as options for impressive boss battles. Roughhouse is a seemingly simple man Wolverine came to blows with as Patch. Thought to be of Asgardian descent due to his incredible strength, Roughhouse is an enforcer for the crime lord General Coy. His appearance in-game could function much like Baldur in God of War; appearing relatively civil and tame but easily devastating Logan with sheer strength.

Marvel's Wolverine Bosses That Could Be Based In Madripoor

Marvel villains who would make Wolverine's boss fights better than Spider-Mans Roughhouse, Viper, Lady Deathstrike

One of Logan's iconic enemies most associated with Madripoor, Viper could serve as the game's key antagonist. Previously known as Madame Hydra, Wolverine has a complicated relationship with her: owing her a life debt, yet having to stop Hydra on several occasions. The two were even married at one point, further adding emotional weight to their plight.

While Spider-Man had to contend with his mentor in the first game, making Wolverine combat not only a former lover, but one who controls a deadly international organization might make for a far more interesting villain. Viper herself has no special powers but she is at the peak of human strength and fitness, a master tactician, and highly skilled with swords and guns. She could prove to outsmart Logan at every step.

One villain which would give Wolverine pause to form a plan could be Lady Deathstrike. Her father was the scientist who developed the adamantium bonding process, and after his death, she began hunting any Marvel characters who had adamantium as she felt it was from his stolen research. This lead to her ongoing confrontation with Logan as the two frequently came to enraged blows.

Lady Deathstrike has her own adamantium skeleton, as well as 12-inch claws on each finger, and extensive training in several martial arts. She is a wildcard who could lure Logan into a trap, challenge him face to face, or attack randomly from the shadows. Her appearance in the game could be akin to that of Man-Bat in Arkham Knight, unexpectedly popping up with Logan needing to track her down.

Marvel's Wolverine Bosses: International Threats

Marvel villains who would make Wolverine's boss fights better than Spider-Mans Maverick, Omega Red, Ogun

Much like Wolverine, some of his greatest enemies will travel the globe for a chance to try and slay him. Maverick, aka Agent Zero, is a highly skilled mercenary and a former subject of the Weapon X program. A master with all manner of firearms, Maverick has the mutant ability to absorb kinetic impacts to almost no ill effect. This later includes being able to discharge the stored energy into enhanced melee attacks and energy blasts.

Maverick could serve a role similar to Silver Sable from Spider-Man as a hired gun sent to take down Logan. At one point, Maverick was able to secrete an acid through his skin - which not only negates mutant healing factors but also reverses their effect. This could lead to intense boss battles as players must avoid taking any melee damage from Maverick and instead focus on environmental attacks or counters. A fight of this nature could even rival Batman versus Deathstroke from Arkham Origins.

Omega Red is a Russian serial killer who underwent government experimentation to create a super-soldier that could rival Wolverine or Captain America. Wielding retractable tentacles in his arms made of Carbonadium, the Russian attempt at recreating adamantium, he emits deadly pheromones which can kill humans within seconds. Omega Red also has a "death factor" in which he must feed on the life force of another person to stay alive. He would be one of the most challenging fights, requiring players to dodge his tentacles while not getting within range of any pheromone blasts. Red would be able to use the environment against the player much like Dr. Octopus, but would no doubt leave a trail of bodies for Wolverine to track similar to Zsasz from Arkham City.

Lastly, and arguably the most compelling, Wolverine villain players could face is Ogun. The mentor to Wolverine during the Second Sino-Japanese War, Ogun not only has superhuman reflexes that make him more than a match for Wolverine in combat, but he has the even more terrifying ability to possess and control others through telepathy. He has even separated his spirit from his body to inhabit that of another, making him virtually immortal.

Ogun could be a legendary enemy from Wolverine's past, appearing as anyone at any time. Players could be attacked by a random NPC, ally, or even one of the other villains of the game under the control of Ogun. There would be no safe place, and surely that kind of creeping attack would be a fantastic method to unhinge Logan. As a final boss, the ability to be any other character in the game could be a phenomenal mechanic that plays on the paranoia of the character and the player.

These are only some of Logan's iconic villains who could bring a new experience to Marvel's Wolverine.  However, they each have tremendous potential as awe-inspiring boss fights even greater than those seen in Insomniac's Spider-Man. Hopefully, Insomniac Games will share more info regarding the game (and villains) soon.
