Some fans think that the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 should have wall-based combat like 2008’s Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows. Insomniac announced the next installment of its Marvel's Spider-Man series during September’s PlayStation Showcase livestream with an intense trailer that saw Peter Parker and Miles Morales face off against the fearsome Venom. Since then, players have been speculating about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s plot, wondering if Venom will become a playable character and if classic comic book storylines like Kraven’s Last Hunt will be adapted.

The internet has been flooded with requests for new features that Insomniac could add to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to improve on the series’ already well-received combat and web transversal gameplay. Many of these fan suggested-features were already introduced in previous games centered around everyone’s favorite arachnid-themed crime-fighter. One of the more outlandish of these requests was the web catapult from the 2007 game adaptation of Spider-Man 3 that allowed Spidey to slingshot himself into the air like a Looney Tunes character. Others want Spidey to race against his longtime buddy the Human Torch like he did in 2005’s Ultimate Spider-Man.

Reddit user IruyDovahkiin recently requested another old combat mechanic to return in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (via GameRant), namely the wall-combat from Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows. To illustrate their point, they posted a montage of gameplay clips from Web Of Shadows, showing Spidey pulling off stylish moves against wall-mounted foes amid the Symbiote-infested streets of New York City. Other fans responding to the post have pointed out that this is very similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man's climactic battle between Spider-Man and Doc Ock, which takes place along the side of a skyscraper. Players have also noted that Symbiote’s presence in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could allow for some wall-scaling enemies for Peter and Miles.

Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows was met with lukewarm reception for its seemingly repetitive gameplay, but the Treyarch game has gained something of a cult following thanks to its story - one that isn’t that far removed from the apparent premise of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. In Web Of Shadows, Spidey battles Venom once again, only this time the hero himself becomes infected with the inky black Symbiote, and must balance between his Black and Red costumes as he teams up with other Marvel heroes like Luke Cage and Wolverine. While it isn’t clear if Insomniac's next game will feature the Symbiote infecting other people as it did in Web Of Shadows, recent rumors have hinted that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 could have Symbiote variants of every alternate costume available for Peter and Miles.

Given that Venom is likely to be the main opponent that Spider-Man faces off against in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as well as the possibility of other enemies developing ways of mimicking the Wall-Crawler’s powers in an effort to better combat him, wall-mounted combat like that of Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows could make for an exciting addition to Insomniac’s already highly impressive gameplay. Only time will tell if the developer sees fit to add this feature, but fans will get their answer when the highly-anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches on PS5 in 2023.
