A scene in Spider-Man: Miles Morales makes it all but certain that the Lizard will play a big role in Insomniac's Spider-Man 2. This time around, a relatively minor Spidey villain took center stage - a new spin on the Tinkerer. But if a big reveal after the credits roll is to be believed, the next installment will feature some very familiar, freakish faces.

There have been a host of villainous guest stars in the latest entry in the Marvel's Spider-Man saga. Vulture and Rhino are kind enough to lend Spider-Man: Miles Morales some boss battle variety, not to mention theatrics. And Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk pays a socially distanced visit to Miles with nearly tragic consequences. Despite showing off  a number of baddies already, developer Insomniac has held off on using some of the biggest names in Spider-Man's rogues gallery. However, a post-credits sequence in Spider-Man: Miles Morales seems to promise that Insomniac is finally ready to play its hand.

Among the several scenes which play after the campaign is beaten, one teases the introduction of several A-list Marvel villains. The scene, which continues a thread from 2018's Spider-Man, shows Oscorp founder (and Peter's family friend) Norman Osborn scheming with one Dr. Curt Connors. Similarly to Doc Ock (who also has a cameo appearance) Connors was a professor of Peter Parker's - Spider-Man's mentors have a horrible habit of transforming into mutant and mechanical monsters. If Insomniac follows traditional comics storylines, then Osborn and Connors are doomed to become Green Goblin and the Lizard, respectively. But what is it they are planning?

How Dr. Connors Might Become The Lizard

The creepy, mysterious scene at the end of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will make more sense to those who played first game. In an eerie scene late in Marvel's Spider-Man, players learn that Norman Osborn has been treating his terminally ill son Harry, another friend of Peter's who is bound for villainy, with an alien symbiote; the symbiote itself will also likely become the evil Venom in Spider-Man 2. At the end of the sequel's story, Spider-Man: Miles Morales reveals more about this villainous team-up. The post-credits scene in question shows that Curt Connors has been monitoring, if not leading, Harry's experimental treatment for Osborn. This study into the symbiote's healing properties may explain the nature of Lizard's famous regenerative powers in this telling of the story.

It's worth pointing out that the Lizard was also alluded to in Marvel's Spider-Man. When Parker goes to a Halloween party undercover as Spider-Man, everyone assumes his costume is, well, just a costume. Someone else at the party wears a Mysterio outfit, and another is dressed as the Lizard. Presumably, this reference is not canon, as Connors has apparently not undergone the mutation which turns him into a supervillain by the time of Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales sets up a lot of possible stories for a sequel. Whether or not fan favorites like The Prowler and Rhino will make it out of jail again, it looks almost certain that the Lizard will be featured in Spider-Man 2.
