A brand-new Marvel's Midnight Suns gameplay showcase focuses on The Hunter, the game's customizable protagonist who possesses both light and dark powers. The upcoming tactical RPG, developed by XCOM developer Firaxis, will let players assemble a squad of Marvel heroes to fight off the evil forces of the demon Lilith. Marvel's Midnight Suns will introduce The Hunter, Lilith's ancient forsaken child, and now the customizable character's extensive skillset has been revealed.

While Marvel's Midnight Suns will let players form a group of iconic superheroes, The Hunter will serve as the game's central protagonist. Awakened after a centuries-long slumber, The Hunter seeks to defeat their villainous mother Lilith while forming relationships with the game's lineup of Marvel heroes. Players are free to customize The Hunter's gender and appearance, and dialogue options will let players mold their personality. The Hunter will be a mandatory part of any squad setup in Marvel's Midnight Suns, and players also use this character to explore the Abbey hub in-between missions. A Marvel's Midnight Suns delay into 2023 was announced last month, but Firaxis continues to shed new light on The Hunter and the rest of the title's lineup.

A new gameplay video of Marvel's Midnight Suns (via YouTube) reveals The Hunter's wide range of powers. The Hunter possesses three distinct ability branches: the Power branch is focused on buffs and debuffs, the Light branch is focused on supportive healing and the Dark branch is focused on dealing damage and manipulating enemies. The Hunter also has a unique Balance mechanic, which lets the powerful warrior embrace Light or Dark powers by making story decisions and using cards of either type during gameplay. The Light and Dark branches have distinct cards and unique Legendary abilities, with Light Hunters summoning the infernal dog Charlie and Dark Hunters unleashing a devastating explosive punch to annihilate their foes.

Marvel's Midnight Suns Lets The Hunter Choose Between Dark & Light

The Hunter looks to be a versatile mystical powerhouse, and a recent Marvel's Midnight Suns Wolverine gameplay showcase showed off the merciless mutant's own arsenal of killer cards. The strategic turn-based RPG will give Wolverine the unique passive ability Healing Factor, which will let the clawed Canadian restore health every time the player redraws a card. The Rapid Regeneration card also lets Wolverine rejoin the battle immediately after being incapacitated, and many of his melee attacks do chain damage to represent the hero's blinding speed and ferocious bloodlust.

Each character in Marvel's Midnight Suns possesses their own unique ability cards and playstyles, and The Hunter is no exception. The game's customizable protagonist can choose to embrace darkness or light, which will have a noticeable effect on both gameplay and narrative. Whether players want to heal their fellow Marvel heroes or decimate the forces of Lilith, Marvel's Midnight Suns lets The Hunter fill a key roles in any superhero squad.
