Marvel's Midnight Suns gives its best characters the best-written friendships with the player. A large part of Midnight Suns fun is enjoying The Abbey's slow-paced RPG mechanics and using that time to befriend the other 12 heroes in the game. Though each character does have their strengths and weaknesses, some develop a relationship with The Hunter better than others. This leads to some profound moments where players can experience the seemingly unbreakable heroes admitting that they are not perfect and need some help occasionally.

Marvel's Midnight Suns doesn't have the heavy-hitting RPG choices fans may expect but still allows players to put themselves into the Marvel franchise. Players can make friends or enemies with any of the heroes, with the effects playing a massive part in combat. To raise friendship levels in Midnight Suns, players can chat, hang out, give gifts and invite heroes to a haven, but each hero has specific likes and dislikes that affect how fast their level will rise. Finally, just like many other RPGs, the higher the friendship level, the more open a hero will be with the player and stronger in combat.

Best-Written Marvel's Midnight Suns Friendships For The Hunter

Marvel's Midnight Suns characters Nico Minoru, Magik, Ghost Rider, and Blade in the Abbey.

Each hero in Marvel's Midnight Suns has an exciting story and often wants The Hunter's input on it and their own life. For The Hunter's backstory, great characters like Captain America, Magik, and Scarlet Witch connect well. The rest of the roster still carries emotional moments of their own, though, like helping the underused Marvel game character Doctor Strange realize he is more than just his Sanctum, or showing Spider-Man that he can trust the rest of the team with his identity. In contrast to those mentioned above, however, the rest pale in comparison regarding natural chemistry with The Hunter.

The Hunter's Relatable Backstory In Midnight Suns

The default look of The Hunter, Marvel's Midnight Suns' customizable player hero.

Born from a human father and demon mother, The Hunter resurrects after 300 years to fight their mother again. This time-lapse immediately connects them with Captain America, who also has to manage coming back to a new world. Captain America becomes a mentor to The Hunter in overcoming the time gap and becoming a leader for the team. In that, Captain America opens up about how he never wanted to be a leader but did so for the betterment of the world. The connection these two share helps The Hunter in Marvel's Midnight Suns grow as a leader while opening up one of the more recognizable Marvel heroes to some insecurity.

In Marvel's Midnight Suns, Magik shares the struggles of a troubled dark past, and while not the easiest to form a friendship with, it is well worth the effort. Magik was kidnapped at a young age by Mephisto and raised to be the next ruler of Limbo. Though she was able to break his control of her, the imprint Mephisto left still affects her. This is where the connection with The Hunter shines the brightest, as both try to sort their feelings for the people who raised them. Magik starts cold and detached but getting her to open up, which doesn't always mean being nice, rewards players with a unique friendship.

Wanda Maximoff, Scarlet Witch in Marvel's Midnight Suns faces a redemption arc from killing Agatha due to losing control over her powers and being one of Lilith's fallen. In choosing to forgive and help Wanda, The Hunter creates a beautiful friendship that can become integral to the story of Midnight Suns. Wanda can become almost like a sister to The Hunter, forming a charming sibling bond focused on taking down the source of their burdens, Lilith.

Firaxis Games is not typically known for narrative writing, but Midnight Suns helps change that reputation. The entire roster has a couple of moments that stand out as emotional or impactful that breathe life into them. As more Midnight Suns DLC characters and stories are added to the game, how these friendships and the overall plot change will be important. Marvel's Midnight Suns has given fans memorable character friendships that should only continue growing.
