There are a few boss encounters in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, including Fin Fang Foom in Chapter 13. The team hopes to knock the dragon out and offer it to Lady Hellbender in exchange for her help in stopping Magus, Grand Unifier Raker, and their growing forces. There are two distinct stages in the fight with Fin Fang Foom, and players will likely need to revive their allies a few times throughout the battle.
The Guardians go after Fin Fang Foom in an attempt to satisfy Lady Hellbender, who is hunting them for attempting to trick her. In Chapter 4, players will try to sell either Groot or Rocket to Lady Hellbender as a con to steal units from her. They decide to knock out and capture Fin Fang Foom to add to her collection of monsters and convince her to join them in their fight to save the galaxy.
At the beginning of Chapter 13, the Guardians will arrive at Maklu IV, take some damage from the planet's falling ice hazards, and crash on the surface. After exiting the ship, players will need to fight their way across the planet to reach the ice obelisk and the arena where they'll fight Fin Fang Foom. The battle consists of two main stages, the first of which requires the use of a new elemental shot. This boss battle can be difficult if players don't use the right skills or tactics.
Defeating Fin Fang Foom in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
The first stage in the fight with Fin Fang Foom will consist of melting the ice encasing his front legs, body, and head. The dragon will use a few different attacks, like fire breath or swiping with his claws, but these should be easy to dodge. GotG's Star-Lord will need to use his newly acquired Plasma shot in order to melt the ice enough to break it. Once the ice armor is hit by the Plasma shot, players can further damage it with regular blasts while the elemental effect is still active. Fin Fang Foom won't take any damage until the second phase of the battle after all the ice armor is destroyed.
In the second phase, Fin Fang Foom will rain fire down on the arena as well as blast ice blocks out of the sky causing shards to fall. Dodge or take cover from his attacks while hitting him as frequently as possible. When enough damage is dealt, there will be a prompt to have Drax throw an ice shard at him, and his head will fall to the ground. When Fin Fang Foom's head is vulnerable, use Groot to hold him down, then unleash the Guardians' most powerful special abilities. Repeat this process until the final prompt appears and Fin Fang Foom is defeated.
As soon as the fight ends, Mantis arrives with a vengeful Lady Hellbender. She will attack initially, but Star-Lord pleads with her. He apologizes for their deceit and the fall of her Dweller-In-Darkness, and, by the end of the cutscene, Lady Hellbender will be convinced to help the Guardians in their fight. Chapter 13 of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy concludes with this final cutscene, then players will continue their journey to stop the Universal Church of Truth.
