The developer of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has confirmed the game's file size on PC after speculation that the game could be as much as 150 GB. The upcoming release is just days from launch, and GotG's system recommendations on Steam had caused concern for some with lower-end PCs and limited storage space.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is a single-player game in which players take control of Star-Lord to save the galaxy alongside Drax, Groot, Rocket Racoon, and Gamora. Ahead of its launch, the PC version of the game was listed as having a 150 GB file size on Steam, both for its minimum and recommended storage space. This meant the game would have been bigger than both Microsoft Flight Simulator was when it first launched on PC, and bigger than Marvel's Avengers. A previous report had suggested GotG would be around 40 GB on PlayStation 5, making the Steam listing somewhat surprising.
The game's developers at Eidos-Montréal have confirmed via Twitter that Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy game won't have a 150 GB file size on PC, perhaps suggesting the Steam listing was simply a placeholder. The official Twitter page for the game revealed GotG will be almost half the size listed on Steam, coming in at approximately 80 GB. In a follow-up tweet, the developer confirmed that 40 - 50 GB of space will be recommended for those on PlayStation 4 and 5.

While 80 GB is a more palatable size for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy's single-player experience, it's not clear just how much storage will be taken up by a day-one patch. Day-one patches, typically released on the day of a game launch, provide further bug fixes and improvements that may not have been prepared in the original download, or on the original disc. However, it seems likely that the game will never hit the 150 GB mark, something which should be a relief for many PC players.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has already been praised for its creative decisions, despite not yet being on store shelves. Following on from fans' disappointment in the microtransactions and live-service elements of Marvel's Avengers, news that Marvel's GotG game will be a narrative-driven, single-player experience has been well-met by fans. It's hoped the game will be just as impressive as other single-player games bearing the Marvel branding, such as Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man. While early GotG previews look positive, fans will have to wait a little longer to find out for themselves.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy will release on October 26 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC and GeForce Now.
