Sony has confirmed that the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be crawling his way into Marvel's Avengers, exclusively on PlayStation consoles. This is a dream come true for Crystal Dynamics, as they are able to create their own version of the web-slinging superhero for Marvel fans to enjoy.

However, it's not hard to imagine that Xbox, PC, and Stadia players might be a bit miffed that they'll be skipped out on when the friendly neighborhood superhero does a superhero landing onto Sony consoles only. Peter Parker will be joining the likes of Hawkeye in the multiplayer-focused blockbuster as post-launch additions, though the timeframe on each hero's arrival has yet to be mapped out by Crystal Dynamics or publisher Square Enix. Recently, rumblings circulated that Spider-Man, a Sony-owned property and star of his own PS4 game, Marvel's Spider-Man, would join the struggle as a hero exclusive to Playstation versions of the game.

As it turns out, those rumors have proven true. A PlayStation Blog post was published by Jeff Adams, the Associate Art Director for Crystal Dynamics, that announced Spider-Man will be teaming up with Marvel’s Avengers' main playable cast of Ms. Marvel, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Black Widow. Spidey will be added to the Marvel's Avengers' roster of superheroes in early 2021 as a PlayStation-exclusive hero, available to PS4 and (presumably) PS5 players that own the base game at no additional cost.

Spider-Man is one of eight confirmed playable characters that will be in Marvel's Avengers. Adams stated that Spider-Man's addition to the game was a moment when his pursuit met his passion. He stated that he has always loved Marvel characters, but that he saw himself reflected in Spider-Man above all characters. Adams wrote, "Now I’m getting to channel my lifelong enjoyment of the character into a version of the interactive hero that I hope inspires the next generation of creators… and well, it’s my dream come true."

The addition of Spider-Man is one that many Marvel fans expected and are excited about, but Xbox fans probably aren't so happy. Spider-Man being a PlayStation exclusive means he will not appear in the Xbox or PC versions of the game, and as of right now, Marvel's Avengers hasn't announced any characters that will be exclusive to Xbox. There also hasn't been any indication that there will be an Xbox exclusive hero announced at a later date.
