A slick new CG trailer for the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers has hit the internet, showing off some stylish action and another brief look at the game’s primary antagonist. Square Enix’s team-based RPG take on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes recently finished a month of open beta testing last week, allowing around 5 million players to sample the game ahead of its release on September 4th.

Despite said beta receiving a mixed reception from fans, Marvel’s Avengers has continued to build up hype due to several enticing DLC announcements that will add to the game’s already star-studded roster of iconic Marvel superheroes. Among the characters confirmed for post-release are Hawkeye and Spider-Man (albeit as a PlayStation exclusive), as well as another surprise hero that will supposedly be revealed at the next Marvel’s Avengers War Table stream hosted by publisher Square Enix next week. In the meantime, fans can see the Avengers of the base game in action one more time before it hits store shelves, as well as get a better look at the villain they’re going to be fighting.

A new CGI trailer for Marvel’s Avengers, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts of the recently announced Metal Gear Solid film, was posted to the game's YouTube channel yesterday. In it, the titular team of heroes faces off against an army of A.I.M. robots, stylishly smashing into them with slow-motion attacks as Ms. Marvel apologizes for being late (and humorously sips on a blue Slushie once she does join the fight). After Hulk downs an enemy warship in front of Iron Man and a few real-life players, another wave of drones enters the battlefield - alongside their master, M.O.D.O.K. Check it out below:

Players already know what M.O.D.O.K. will look like in Marvel’s Avengers thanks to a recent leak by his voice actor, Usman Ally. The bizarre leader of A.I.M. - as well as his human alter ego, George Tarleton - was confirmed as the game's main antagonist back in June after months of leaks and speculation. The plot of Marvel's Avengers will feature Captain America's long-time enemy using his army to kidnap and experiment on Inhumans while the Avengers struggle to rebuild following a tragic attack on San Francisco five years before the game's events.

M.O.D.O.K.’s appearance at the end of the recent Marvel’s Avengers trailer is a fun little surprise, and the rest of the trailer is full of all the action and humor fans love about Marvel's classic lineup of heroes, on top of being visually stunning. Players won't have to wait much longer to step into the spandex of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, as Marvel’s Avengers will finally launch less than one week from now, on September 4th.
