A bug that allows players in Marvel's Avengers to get access to upcoming MCU cosmetic skins has been disabled by developer Crystal Dynamics until the studio can fix the issue. The glitch first emerged yesterday, giving fans a glimpse of future skins that will be available. This includes MCU versions of Iron Man and Captain America. These alternate costumes, though, will not be free and users will have to spend real money to unlock the outfits in the marketplace.

Marvel's Avengers recently launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, after a mediocre release last year on older platforms. Shortly after it became available, analysis was carried out to see which version performs best. One notable YouTube channel claims that that the title loads better on Sony's console but actually has more impressive graphics on the Xbox Series X edition. The PS5 release of Marvel's Avengers also has a more stable framerate that stutters less frequently.

Players in Marvel's Avengers have been able to try out premium cosmetic skins in the game, including some upcoming costumes from the MCU universe, without paying for them, thanks to a high-profile glitch. First reported by Twitter user AlkimeWasTaken, the bug can be triggered in the Mega Hive by repeatedly dying and going to the hero select screen until the items are temporarily unlocked. In response, Crystal Dynamics has announced that it has disabled the Mega Hive while the studio works on a permanent fix. The developer has also promised to keep players informed about when the issue is solved.

Despite arriving with plenty of anticipation from gamers, Marvel's Avengers has not been particularly successful for Square Enix. In fact, last November, it emerged that the game had not managed to make a profit in several months and had performed significantly below expectations. The title also lost upwards of 96% of its player base shortly after it launched.

Marvel's Avengers has had a rocky time since its initial launch last year. Along with a dwindling number of players and a mixed reception, there have been a number of major bugs. However, this latest one was probably welcomed by players who are still invested in the game, especially those who have no intention of buying the upcoming skins, since it gave them an early sneak peek at a potentially high value cosmetic.
