Shortly after the original Hawkeye, Clint Barton, was announced as an additional playable hero coming to Marvel’s Avengers, Kate Bishop has been revealed to join the roster alongside her archery mentor. Kate’s arrival continues the series of characters’ reveals by Crystal Dynamics.

Cling Barton was presented as an additional free hero for Marvel’s Avengers a month ago via a stylish teaser trailer. The announcement fueled a series of fan theories on who might be added to the game after Hawkeye, and it wasn’t long until Marvel officially announced Spider-Man as the next avenger. Unfortunately, the friendly neighborhood crime fighter was revealed as a PlayStation exclusive character, which caused a wave of criticism and fan backlash. Luckily, Spidey was later confirmed to be the only such outcast as there were no more plans to feature platform-exclusive heroes in Marvel’s Avengers, ever.

The latest addition to the game’s roster comes in the form of Kate Bishop, Clint Barton’s apprentice, who took over his role as Hawkeye in the comics. Kate was revealed during the Square Enix’s War Table livestream, which also shed the light on some of the gameplay details and missions in Marvel’s Avengers. The famed archer will actually be the first additional character for the game starting the two Hawkeyes’ narrative, which will continue with Clint Barton’s appearance in November 2020. But first, Kate’s story will begin unfolding in late October with the “Taking AIM” mission. Additionally, it was once again reiterated that all the post-launch characters will be completely free for the owners of Marvel’s Avengers.

As much as Kate Bishop’s reveal is an exciting piece of news, Crystal Dynamics was seemingly planning to showcase a different additional character. At the begging of the livestream, the developers said that out of respect for Chadwick Boseman’s recent tragic passing, they made a decision to change the panel. It is definitely not the time to talk about Black Panther being officially added to the game, which is understandable, but the hero has already been leaked as one of the first characters to join Marvel’s Avengers post-launch. The official confirmation will likely follow slightly later.

While the original team of Avengers is undoubtedly exciting, the opportunity to play as many other prominent characters from the vast Marvel universe is an inspiring one. Marvel’s Avengers is steadily building up its roster prior to the approaching release date, and fans can expect an ever denser stream of reveals after the game launches later this week. As a live-service title, it will definitely be introducing new characters on a regular basis for years to come, which is worth looking forward to.
