A blow has been delivered to the roadmap for Marvel's Avengers, as the PS5 and Xbox Series X ports have been pushed back to 2021, while the planned Kate Bishop content update has been delayed. Marvel's Avengers is a live-service game that is meant to receive content updates throughout its run, including new characters and missions.

The player base for Marvel's Avengers has dropped sharply since launch, with the blame being pointed at the lack of content in the game. Once the story mode in the game is finished, there isn't much of an incentive to come back. The grind for high-level gear in Marvel's Avengers is also frustrating and makes it a chore to play, especially considering the amount of recycled content in the game.

The developers of Marvel's Avengers have promised that more content is on the way, but some things have been delayed in the process. A post made on the official Marvel's Avengers website has confirmed that the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game have been delayed to 2021. An exact date for the next-gen releases has yet to be announced. The developers reaffirmed that the game will have cross-gen play on specific lines of systems (PS5 to PS4, etc) and that people who own the current versions of the game will receive the next-gen versions for free.

Marvel's Avengers Kate Bishop

The developers also confirmed that the Kate Bishop DLC has been delayed out of October, as the team is focusing on improving the quality of the base version of the game. Kate Bishop is the first post-launch character to be added to Marvel's Avengers and she will star in her own special missions. The Kate Bishop content was going to be the first major addition to Marvel's Avengers and its delay is a blow to the game's prospects, especially with the player base currently diminishing.

The next-gen versions of Marvel's Avengers would have boosted the game's exposure, as the fast loading of the new systems would help alleviate one of the major complaints regarding the current versions of the game. The delay of the Kate Bishop DLC is more of an issue, as Marvel's Avengers is hurting for new content. The Tachyon Rifts update and its new gear is a nice addition, but the game needs something big to win back the crowds. Hopefully, that the Kate Bishop DLC isn't delayed for too long.
