Black Widow is getting her new white outfit from the Black Widow film in Marvel’s Avengers this week. This is yet another MCU skin being added to the game, which recently saw the release of Captain America’s Avengers: Endgame skin. As of now, Thor is the only Marvel’s Avengers character who hasn’t received his outfit from the most recent Avengers flick. Since May, Crystal Dynamics has consistently released skins for the superhero game, and this is the latest MCU-inspired outfit.
Though Marvel's Avengers got off to a rough start last year, the game's future has begun to look a little brighter recently. The Cosmic Cube event, which included the Beating the Odds villain sector, offered a unique new challenge for a game that is often criticized for its repetitive tasks. The ability to play as any combination of heroes returned permanently, so players can team-up together with any permeation of the Avengers. Black Panther’s War for Wakanda expansion is set to launch next month, promising the game’s most sizable content drop yet. Until then, smaller content drops, like MCU skins, are making their way to the game.
In a Tweet from the PlayAvengers Twitter account, Crystal Dynamics revealed that Black Widow’s white uniform from the upcoming stand-alone film is coming to Marvel’s Avengers on July 8. The new skin is launching in conjunction with the Black Widow movie, the first MCU film in theaters since Spider-Man: Far From Home. This skin will presumably cost 1400 credits, the largest price for a skin in the game’s marketplace.
This is the second MCU-inspired skin for Black Widow, whose Avengers: Endgame skin was met with mixed reception from fans due to its different hairstyle. Fans got their first look at the heroine's new suit in a teaser trailer for the upcoming film back in 2019. The white uniform stuck out as a unique look for the character, who mostly wore black outfits throughout the MCU. The skin is also the first MCU skin released for the game that isn't inspired by characters' appearances in Avengers: Endgame.
This new white costume appears to be an accurate representation of her outfit in the new movie. Unlike Black Widow’s Avengers: Endgame skin, this one features similar looking hair to her counterpart in the film. This new addition around the release of Black Widow represents a strategic marketing strategy undertaken by Crystal Dynamics. It’s possible that the developer could continue to align future content drops with upcoming MCU projects. Perhaps more skins or content updates will launch alongside Ms. Marvel or Hawkeye, which both feature characters in the game.
