A stunning new Marvel’s Avengers short film has just been released in time for the upcoming Black Panther - War For Wakanda DLC expansion later this month. Square Enix announced the latest story campaign for its superhero action RPG a couple of months ago and with it a new take on the ever-popular Black Panther of comic book and MCU fame.

The Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther - War For Wakanda will feature T’Challa (voiced by God Of War’s Christopher Judge) as he joins forces with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to defend the fictional African country of Wakanda from the evil Ulysses Klaw and the forces of A.I.M. It is the third DLC storyline to come to Marvel’s Avengers (following the Kate Bishop-focused Taking A.I.M. and the Hawkeye-centric Future Imperfect) and will be the game's largest expansion to date with roughly 25 hours of new gameplay.

Earlier today, Xbox posted a new animated short film to promote the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther - War For Wakanda DLC on YouTube. Titled Road to Wakanda: Children of T'Chaka, this two-minute-long mini-movie features beautiful hand-drawn illustrations and a voice-over of the Wakandan warrior Okoye describing how her country has remained unconquered for over ten centuries – although Klaw may change that. However, she finally concludes that it is T'Challa's destiny to become the Black Panther and that it will take all of "the children of T'Chaka" to repel the threat to come.

Since it first launched last August, Marvel’s Avengers has been fighting an uphill battle to capture the magic of previous superhero game success stories like Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles, though it has continually fallen short of that goal. The game got a serious boost in new players after a free trial giveaway during the weekend, though, time will tell if this will lead to a permanent increase as the War For Wakanda DLC gets ready to launch in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, the Marvel’s Avengers animated short is a great way to get players excited for the new expansion, featuring top-notch voice acting and illustrations along with plenty of insight into the game's version of Wakanda and its inhabitants. Fans will finally be able to step into the spotlight as Marvel’s Avengers' version of the Black Panther when the War For Wakanda DLC launches on August 17.
