Marvel's Avengers is finally adding Black Panther to the game and fans got a sneak peak at what the expansion will look like when it releases later this summer. Marvel's Avengers didn't make a huge impression on fans when it launched in 2020, but it's looking like this Black Panther expansion could be the start of a big redemption arc for the game.

Black Panther was rumored for Marvel's Avengers last year, but it was unclear when he'd actually make his debut. Due to the rocky launch of the game, the developers seemingly delayed a lot of plans for new content (hence the lack of the previously announced Spider-Man DLC) in order to focus on stabilizing the actual game. As a result, there's only been two major character additions with Hawkeye and Kate Bishop since launching, but Black Panther will join the fight around the game's one year anniversary.

The first trailer for War for Wakanda, a new expansion to Marvel's Avengers which takes players to Wakanda, was revealed during the Square Enix showcase. Black Panther will seemingly be joined by heroes like Iron Man in an attempt to fight Klaw who is trying to steal vibranium from the secret country. The trailer doesn't feature any actual gameplay but it looks like Marvel's Avengers' Black Panther update will be substantial for story content. Just prior to this, players will also get Patrol Mode which lets players patrol war zones with friends and fight enemies.

Whether or not this indicates that Crystal Dynamics is feeling more confident in its game and will be getting more bullish about big updates remains to be seen. Right now, having the ability to play as Black Panther certainly sounds appealing, and Wakanda will likely be a welcome shake-up to the otherwise mundane biomes the main game has to offer. Hopefully, this can start to help turn Marvel's Avengers around and win back some lost fans.

It was previously suggested that God of War's Christopher Judge may play Black Panther, but it's unclear if that's the case. The few pieces of dialogue heard in the trailer do somewhat resemble his voice with an accent, but it's hard to say for certain. Either way, the character has exploded in popularity since debuting in the MCU a few years ago and it's likely that will continue even without the late Chadwick Boseman in the role of the iconic hero. Hopefully, Marvel's Avengers can do the character justice and get fans excited at the mouth for a potential proper Black Panther game.
