A massive Marvel's Avengers development update has revealed upcoming hero buffs, a new Villain Sector and the introduction of Winter Soldier as the game's next playable hero. The co-op superhero simulator released back in 2020, but even after a series of free updates the game still lacks a dedicated playerbase. Back in June Marvel's Avengers added Jane Foster Thor as its newest playable character, and soon the cyborg Winter Soldier will step onto the battlefield too.

Upon launch Marvel's Avengers was criticized for its intrusive microtransactions, widespread technical issues and lack of meaningful endgame content. Developer Crystal Dynamics has successfully addressed some of these criticisms through free post-launch updates, but Marvel's Avengers has still been unable to rebuild its playerbase. While many fans fear that the game will soon be abandoned, Crystal Dynamics has demonstrated a commitment to continue supporting the multiplayer Marvel experience into the future. The developer already revealed plans to release the Cloning Labs Omega Level Threat mission, which will include a new MODOK boss fight to Marvel's Avengers, and now even more future content has been detailed.

Marvel's Avengers recently revealed content coming in the game's 2.6 and 2.7 updates, including the addition of the Winter Soldier. A video from YouTuber BobDuckNWeave starts out by detailing the 2.6 update, which will introduce a new Monica Rappaccini Villain Sector called No Rest For The Wicked. Similar to the game's Beating The Odds mission, this Villain Sector will let players face off against Monica every week to earn new rewards. This update will also include balance changes, with certain Avengers receiving buffs to make them more engaging to play, and Marvel's Avengers' Stagger mechanic will also be rebalanced.

Marvel's Avengers Has Big Plans For The Future

Recent rumors suggested that Marvel's Avengers was adding Winter Soldier, and the second YouTube video posted by BobDuckNWeave confirms these claims. The game's 2.7 update will reportedly introduce the Cloning Labs, a long-awaited Omega Level Threat mission designed for high-level players that was announced shortly after launch. The Marvel's Avengers 2.7 update will also add the game's next playable hero, Winter Soldier, whose story will be tied to the Cloning Labs. Bucky Barnes will reportedly have his own unique moveset, which emphasizes ranged firepower and takes advantage of his robot arm in melee combat, though parts of his kit will apparently be similar to both Captain America and Black Widow.

While his training and skillset will make him reminiscent of other characters, Winter Soldier will hopefully avoid criticisms that Jane Foster Thor is an echo clone. Despite being her own distinct character, the Mighty Thor shares a many abilities and animations with the original Thor Odinson. She does possess some of her own skills, however, including her powerful Ultimate ability called All-Weapon which lets her wield the iconic Undrjarn. Many fans were still disappointed in Mighty Thor due to her similarities to her male counterpart, and Crystal Dynamics has specified that Winter Soldier will be a much more unique hero.

Quelling fears that the game will soon be abandoned, Marvel's Avengers has outlined a breadth of new content coming in the near future. The new No Rest For The Wicked Villain Sector will give players more to do on a weekly basis, while the upcoming Cloning Labs promise to pose a challenge worthy of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. With the Winter Soldier set to arrive with the 2.7 update, Marvel's Avengers fans should get ready for cyborg assassin action.

Marvel's Avengers is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Google Stadia.
