Marvel's Agents of SHIELD was getting crazier every season, taking things up a notch every time, with the fifth season seeing the introduction and demise of one of the most iconic villains in Marvel Comics, Graviton. SHIELD has already had a space adventure, traveled from the future to the present, and saved Earth's fate multiple times.

With Phil Coulson out of the picture, many fans wondered whether Alphonso Mackenzie would be able to take the place of the charismatic Coulson. As always, Earth's future is on the line in the sixth outing of the series, and here's how some of the best episodes rank from it according to IMDb.

"Missing Pieces" (8.2)

The first episode of season 6 started out by giving an update on the whereabouts of Leo Fitz, while the Earth was being saved. The scene then cuts to one year later, where Daisy Johnson, Jemma Simmons, Piper, and Davis are looking for Fitz in the space. Even though they are trying very hard, it seems, they just cannot get a good enough lead. Back at the Lighthouse (new SHIELD base), Alphonso Mackenzie is trying hard to fill in the shoes of Phil Coulson but when a precarious situation turns up, he finds it difficult to deal with the pressure.

"The Other Thing" (8.2)

In the fifth episode of season 6, a lot of things about Shrike are revealed and it turns out, Sarge is on Earth to save the planet from another extinction-level event because, supposedly, the Shrike have a master who is going to show up on Earth very soon. Melinda May, after being kidnapped by Coulson, is keeping it cool, while Daisy, Simmons, and Enoch find themselves with some more Chronicoms.

"From The Ashes" (8.3)

In the eleventh episode of season 6, Izel is really pulling a number on Mack and Yo-Yo, as the two SHIELD agents are trapped with a monster, without any backup plan. They have to slow her down but it's not easy when Izel keeps threatening the lives of the people they care about.

At the Lighthouse, Simmons, Fitz, and Deke are working on a solution to the possession problem, while May and Daisy are trying to make Sarge show them what he really is.

"Fear And Loathing On The Planet Of Kitson" (8.5)

In the third episode of season 6, the planet of Kitson is in focus, as the show takes a break from the Coulson lookalike aka Sarge. And it's a welcome change because Fitz and Enoch are genuinely hilarious together. They are trying their hands on the casino table, while Simmons and Daisy are getting high on drugs. Of course, they don't know that Fitz is there. It's a decent episode, which gives the fans a lot of laughs.

"Collision Course (Part 1)" (8.6)

Honestly, the eighth episode of season 6 is absolutely breathless because a lot of secrets are being revealed, concerning Coulson, Sarge, and the SHIELD agents. Mack keeps his promise to Sarge, but only partly, as Daisy, Deke and May join him and Snowflake. Sarge has made up his mind to destroy the Shrike, something Daisy and May cannot stand. Also, Fitz and Simmons are unaware that they are bringing another destroyer of worlds to Earth, namely Izel.

"The Sign" (8.6)

In the penultimate episode of season 6, Mack, Yo-Yo, and the recreation of Flint are inside the Temple of the Forgotten and they must find their way back to the team to tell them about Izel's plans. Daisy, May, and Sarge are making their way to Izel, in order to end this once and for all but the thing inside Sarge is complicating matters. Also, the Shrike zombies are not helping things, with Mack and Yo-Yo trapped.

"Collision Course (Part 2)" (8.7)

In the ninth episode of season 6, the events from the previous episode continue as Daisy, somehow, manages to stop the Atom Bomb from exploding, while Simmons and Fitz recognize the fact that there's something wrong with Izel.

Those aren't the only problems, though, as the Shrike have covered Melinda, Deke, Daisy, and Snowflake from all directions. Meanwhile, Sarge is on the run.

"Leap" (8.7)

In the tenth episode of season 6, everything and everyone is on edge inside the Lighthouse because Izel is going around possessing people without them knowing what exactly happened. The team needs to stop trusting each other, for the moment because if Izel comes anywhere near Daisy or Yo-Yo, she might be able to kill every single person inside the SHIELD base. Elsewhere, some new secrets about Sarge come to light.

"New Life" (8.8)

The season 6 finale is a decent ending to an average season, which showed a lot of promise at the start. Izel turned out to be one of the most lackluster villains of the season, as she didn't really pose a problem for the SHIELD agents, although May was pushed to her limit. Honestly, everyone was concerned about the things going on with Coulson or Sarge, but that turned out to be a dead-end anyway.

"Inescapable" (9.0)

It's no coincidence that the best episode of season 6 is all about Jemma Simmons and Leo Fitz. They are genuinely the best characters in the series, after a certain Phil Coulson. The Chronicoms need help from the two geniuses and they find themselves in a mind palace, of sorts, where whatever they think comes to fruition. While some things are good, some are horrifying and it makes for a completely wild drive, which is very fun.
