During The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 5, episode 7, Midge hinted that her mother, Rose, may not have as much time left as audiences would hope. From the creators of Gilmore Girls, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a comedy drama following Midge Maisel, a mother and wife who decides to pursue a career in comedy. The series is currently airing its fifth and final season on Amazon Prime Video.

Although Midge is the protagonist of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the series has something of an ensemble cast, wherein every character is unique and interesting in their own right. Of the many personalities in the show, Rose Weissman, Midge's mother, stands out for her neuroticism, social sensibilities, and sometimes delusional but likable personality. Over the seasons, Rose's storylines have offered a new look at the Mrs. Maisel world, including her adventure into the ruthless matchmaking business. In The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 5, Rose continues her antics, but her time may be coming to an end.

The latest The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 5 time jump inferred that Rose Weissman may be terminally ill. The episode gave a peek into the 1970s when Midge is helping Rose make commercials for her matchmaking business. The scenes are humorous at first, showing Rose's struggle with the jargon and rules of filming. But later, as an accountant reveals that the commercials are draining Midge's bank account, Midge argues that her mother can have as much of her money as she wants, because the commercials are "all [Midge] can do for her in the brief time she's got left."

In just one line, Midge confirms that Rose may be dying and quickly. Based on Midge's high emotions and her refusal to stop making the commercials, despite their cost, it's clear that Rose is in certain danger, and no matter what, Midge wants to make sure she's happy. The additional interesting aspect of this revelation is that, besides this line from Midge, there's no sense that Rose is ill. During the filming of her commercials, she seems the same as always: opinionated and in her own world. However, it is clear that she's hiding a dark secret.

What Is Wrong With Rose In The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel?

It is unclear what exactly is wrong with Rose's character in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 5. Most likely, she is suffering from a form of late-stage cancer. Although those with cancer typically are treated with chemotherapy or radiation, Rose's illness may be so far developed that she decided to not treat it at all. Furthermore, Rose could also have dementia. While dementia doesn't typically cause death, it can shorten the amount of time that a person remembers their life and those around them. This could also explain why Rose's commercials are taking so long to complete if she is forgetting her marks and lines.

As the final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel comes closer to its end, no characters are safe. Each jump into the future gives yet another glimpse at how the series' beloved characters may succeed or suffer. In this case, Rose may soon have an unhappy ending, and hopefully, the show will give clearer answers as to what's wrong with her. In the meantime, all audiences can hope for is a satisfying and justifiable ending to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
