The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 5 will bring back Milo Ventimiglia's character. Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the show stars Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a 1950s woman who breaks the constraints of her New York City housewife lifestyle and pursues a character in stand-up comedy. Also starring Marin Hinkle and Tony Shalhoub as Midge’s parents and Alex Borstein as Midge’s outspoken manager Susie Myerson, the series debuted on Amazon in 2017.
In 2019, Amazon released The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 3 and renewed the award-winning series for a fourth installment. However, due to coronavirus concerns, filming on season 4 was stalled, which led to a delay in airing a season per year. In February 2022, Amazon released season 4, which centers on Midge’s fight to get her career back on track after the fallout of being fired from Shy Baldwin’s tour. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 sees Midge and her family navigating through some of the most challenging hurdles of the series while introducing some familiar faces, including Gilmore Girls veterans Ventimiglia, Kelly Bishop, Chris Eigeman, and Scott Cohen.
Now, it appears Ventimiglia’s Marvelous Mrs. Maisel character will have another encounter with Midge. Per The Wrap, Ventimiglia will reprise his role as the Handsome Man in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 5. Introduced in season 4, episode 7, Handsome Man had a brief romantic interaction with Midge before Midge learns he’s married. At this time, the storyline for Handsome Man in season 5 is unknown.
For now, major plot details for the next installment of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel remain under wraps, but the cast list reveals fan-favorite characters from season 4 will have their storylines fleshed out. Recently, the show announced that Reid Scott (talk show host Gordon Ford), and Bishop, who portrayed Rose’s rival matchmaker Benedetta, have been promoted to series regulars for season 5. Of course, Ventimiglia's Handsome Man making a return could indicate that Midge's love life plays a more prominent role and becomes entangled with her career path in season 5.
Shortly after the debut of season 4, it was announced that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's fifth season would be its last. While it may seem short-lived for such a popular series, the creators have expressed they prefer to end on a high note. Sherman-Palladino already knows The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's final shot, but it remains to be seen how Midge's journey on the small screen will come to a close. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 5 is likely to debut sometime in 2023 on Amazon.
