Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 is set to start filming in January 2021. The series initially premiered in early 2017 to overall favorable reviews on both the critical and viewer side. Focusing on a wealthy 1950s housewife who turns to stand-up comedy after learning that her husband has been unfaithful, the show won over fans for its bright costumes, throwback references, and feminist storyline. It was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the mind behind other favorites including Gilmore Girls and Bunheads.
Season 3 premiered in December 2019, and although the show was renewed for another season immediately, production was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, however, star Rachel Brosnahan shared the news that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 will begin filming in January 2021. While discussing The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show,” Brosnahan revealed that she hasn’t yet seen a script - but she has been going to wig, shoe, and hat fittings. The actress wasn’t able to give any details on the plot, but she did state one piece of good news: The hats she’s seen are “out of control.”
At the end of season 3, Midge finds herself at a standstill. The first two seasons saw her finding her footing in the comedy world, and by season 3, she had secured a spot on a tour with musician Shy Baldwin. Unfortunately, season 3 ends on a cliffhanger with Midge being dropped from the tour after nearly outing Baldwin as gay. When asked if she could share a teaser of what might happen after this cliffhanger, Brosnahan said she truly didn’t know anything from Midge’s season 4 story.
Even though Brosnahan is in the dark about season 4’s plot, one thing is clear - the costumes will be just as outrageous as the previous seasons. Aside from that, the only other season 4 information revealed so far is that Lenny Bruce will have more screen time. Sherman-Palladino confirmed this back in October after citing the chemistry that he has with Midge. Here’s hoping The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 won’t have any more setbacks so that fans can see some of Midge’s truly extravagant hats soon.
