The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 2 premiered last week, and if you’re a fan, and now people are already looking forward to season 3 of the hit Amazon TV series. Since arriving in 2017, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has become one of the crown jewels in Amazon’s streaming empire. Audiences fell in love with Amy Sherman-Palladino’s uplifting, coiffed and yet still incredibly raw portrayal of Midge Maisel, and Maisel's journey to becoming a stand-up comedian in the late 1950s. It’s won eight Emmys including Best Comedy, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress for Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 1 followed Midge through the first painful steps of ending her marriage to an unfaithful husband, as well as creating an act and coming to terms with the fact that her life wouldn’t look like the fairy tale she’d been raised to want. Then, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 2 saw her make huge strides in her comedy career, but also deal with the larger toll her success took on her personal life. Her career’s cost her her marriage, despite Joel’s continued support of her, and her decision to forge a new path had unexpected implications as her mother and father took their own giant leaps into the unknown, both somewhat inspired by their daughter’s journey.

At the end of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 2, nearly everyone on the show stood at a crossroads, prepared to move even further afield of the predictable, luxurious lives they started in at the top of season 1. If anything, that’s revving up the anticipation of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 3 even more (to say nothing of the clothes).

Amazon Has Already Renewed Marvelous Mrs Maisel For Season 3

Amazon renewed The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for season 3 back in May, long before season 2 even released. Clearly the faith Amazon has in Sherman-Palladino is strong, and to wit, she hasn’t disappointed. Whether or not audiences see a The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 remains to be seen, but considering it’s already been nominated for three Golden Globes for Best Comedy Series, Best Actress, and Supporting Actress in a Comedy or Musical, once more for Brosnahan and Borstein, the outlook certainly looks positive.

When Will The Marvelous Mrs Maisel Season 3 Release?

If The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel starts shooting season 2 in the spring, as expected, then audiences can hope for another winter release. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 1 premiered in late November 2017 and season 2 premiered in early December 2018. (It's presumably taken The Man in the High Castle's previous release slot). The show’s sunny-ish outlook paired with its family dynamic and broad appeal make it the ideal show to watch during the holidays. So while we’re not especially excited to wait another 11 months and change to see how Midge’s career is progressing, it’s officially something to look forward to in 2019.

What Will The Marvelous Mrs Maisel Season 3's Story Be?

The big question regarding The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 3 is how Midge’s decision to embark on a six-month tour opening for singer Shy Baldwin will affect the life she’s left behind. She seems to think that the unquestioning “yes” she threw at Shy means that her career is her truest love and that she’s condemned to spend the rest of her life alone because of it. That might seem extreme, but considering how off-the-wall it was for women to be working outside the home at all during the '50s, Midge probably isn’t wrong when she realizes that by putting herself and a demanding career first, she’s not going to have enough left over to give a '50s kind of man the attention he probably expects. Zachary Levi’s Dr. Ben Ettenberg does enjoy Midge’s career, but whether or not he’ll be supportive of her taking a six-month trip without consulting just after they’ve gotten engaged remains to be seen. Also, her kids; they’ll probably have feelings about her choice to leave them for half a year.

What also remains to be seen is whether or not we’ll get to go on tour with Mrs. Maisel or if the show will pick up after she gets back (or if she goes at all, though we feel the chances of her not getting to take advantage of this opportunity seem slim). Rose’s trip to Paris and later the family’s trip to the Catskills provided a nice break from the show’s traditional New York setting. And The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 2 progressed Midge’s career significantly, which was welcome. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 3 would do well to follow the same pattern, considering the fact that the audience is probably just as invested in Midge’s meteoric rise as she is. Exploring her story through the lens of an international tour alongside an artist who’s no doubt faced similar marginalization would elevate the third season to new heights.
