Warning: SPOILERS for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4, Episode 2 - "Billy Jones and the Orgy Lamps"
Miriam "Midge" Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) gets arrested again in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 continuing one of the Amazon Prime comedy series' running jokes. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 picks up immediately after season 3's cliffhanger: Midge and her manager, Susie Myerson (Alex Borstein), were fired from Shy Baldwin's (LeRoy McClain) tour. Forced to pick up the pieces after this disaster, Mrs. Maisel has to decide what she wants out of her career as a New York City stand-up comic. Unfortunately, Midge's temper and impetuousness get the better of her again so that she winds up back in the slammer.
Midge's brand of ribald stand-up comedy has proven to be dangerous. Midge's closest friend in the business, Lenny Bruce (Luke Kirby), has been arrested multiple times, after all. Even when she doesn't end up in handcuffs, Midge's stream-of-consciousness style of standup has gotten her blacklisted by Sophie Lennon (Jane Lynch), caused Bell Labs to investigate and fire her father, Abe Weissman (Tony Shalhoub), and she inadvertently outed Shy Baldwin in front of his hometown crowd at the Apollo Theater, which is what got her fired by Shy's manager, Reggie (Sterling K. Brown). Mrs. Maisel's habit of saying whatever she wants on stage especially gets her in trouble because she's a woman in 1960, which is one of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's themes.
Still, Midge has had extraordinarily bad luck when it comes to getting arrested. Mrs. Maisel has quite a rap sheet for a Jewish mother in her late 20s with two young children. Although Midge actually avoided getting arrested in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel seasons 2 and 3, here are the 4 times Miriam was thrown in jail.
Mrs. Maisel's First Arrest - Season 1, Episode 1
Midge's first time getting arrested happens at the end of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's season 1 premiere. Distraught by her husband Joel (Michael Zegen) leaving her and blamed by her parents, a drunken Midge takes the stage at the Gaslight and performs an incendiary stand-up set. The swearing and foul language Midge uses in her impromptu act draws police attention and the last straw was when Midge exposed her breasts on stage. Midge was arrested but she was bailed out later that night by Susie. This was also the night Midge met Lenny Bruce.
Mrs. Maisel's Second Arrest - Season 1, Episode 2
Midge gets arrested again at the end of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 1, episode 2, "Ya Shivu v Bolshom Dome Na Kholme." After Yom Kippur dinner was a disaster and Joel's father Moishe (Kevin Pollack) announced he was throwing her and Joel out of their apartment, a furious Midge retook the stage at the Gaslight and performed another set that got her arrested by the same police officer. This time, Lenny Bruce bailed Midge out.
Mrs. Maisel's Third Arrest - Season 1, Episode 3
In The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's 3rd episode, as her lawyer, Michael Kessler (Max Casella), defended her from her prior arrests' charges of performing without a cabaret license, public indecency, simulating a sex act while on stage, and exposing her breasts, Midge lost her temper at the condescending tone of the judge. Midge wound up back in jail for contempt of court but she got out after offering an apology and paying a $200 fine (which Joel bankrolled without knowing why).
Mrs. Maisel's Fourth Arrest - Season 4, Episode 2
In The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4, episode 2, Midge gets arrested for the fourth time. After she's thrown out of a comedy club, Midge jokes about picking men up on the sidewalk just as a police officer was walking by. Mrs. Maisel is thrown in jail for solicitation until Susie bails her out. Whether Midge will find her way back in jail again in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 is anyone's guess.
