A new nightmare has come to the Marvel Universe--just in time for Halloween--and now fans can finally get their first look at how innocently the apocalypse can begin... in Marvel Zombies Resurrection #1.
The new preview kicks off a return to the world of gore and horror still remembered fondly by readers of the original Marvel Zombies series (you had to be there). That original zombie nightmare spread through Marvel's most iconic heroes, villains, and teams, and Resurrection looks to do the same. Writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson is carrying forward the banner first raised by Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, and while horror is sure to explode sooner rather than later, the first pages start with the heroes united, and still in heroic form... debating how best to exploit the corpse of Galactus.
When the series was first announced (as Marvel Zombies Respawn, before a title change) the synopsis made no secret of Galactus's role in starting the new event. When the Destroyer of Worlds appears within range of planet Earth, alarm bells sound. But when the villain appears to have died on his way to Earth, the heroes have to prepare a different kind of mission--and have to act before some other group pillages the body for nefarious purposes.
That's the premise established in the newly released preview of Marvel Zombies Resurrection #1, showing Marvel's formerly-smartest scientist assembling the heaviest hitters of The Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four to intercept the cosmic corpse. Which means serious trouble, since they will likely be the first heroes corrupted by the undead plague Galactus is carrying. Check out the preview pages below:
It remains to be seen how the appearance of Galactus may work the fiction of the original Marvel Zombies series into the current Marvel canon, or if this series, like that one, will be an out of continuity 'what if' nightmare.
