The zombie version of the Incredible Hulk comes with an incredible hunger, and the Herald of Galactus learned the undead Hulk isn’t lacking in strength when the Silver Surfer had his head viciously bitten off by the beast. The Marvel Zombies series has shown decaying versions of beloved Marvel characters, committing some of the most horrifying, macabre and admittedly impressive acts to satisfy their hunger.

The infected heroes of Marvel Zombies are driven to the consume living flesh and have ravaged their Earth in days. Rotting versions of costumed crusaders like Daredevil, Iron Man, and Storm desperately scour for any remaining food sources (aka people), while maintaining their powers and most of their personalities. Zombie Spider-Man mourns the wife and aunt he consumed between feasts. Zombie Ant-Man and Wasp fight over Hank’s secret decision to keep an uninfected T’Challa in his lab to snack on at his own leisure, like living Black Panther jerky. In the Ultimate Fantastic Four storyline the zombies originated in, their zombie Mr. Fantastic brilliantly tricks Ultimate Reed Richards into opening a portal to a new reality to consume. The zombies are desperate for flesh and act accordingly... when their next meal appears from the sky, on a shiny surfboard.

The Silver Surfer is one of the most powerful beings in whatever Marvel universe he occupies, but underestimating the savage zombies he encounters on Earth-2149 is a mistake that ends up with his head chomped off by the jaws of the Hulk. Ironically, the Surfer arrives on the zombies’ world to inform them their planet is to be consumed, fulfilling his duties as Herald of Galactus. The former heroes pay little attention to the Surfer’s message and attack. The Sentinel of the Spaceways easily fends off most of the heroes and their ineffective bites. That changes after an enraged Hulk survives a face full of power cosmic blasts... and rips off the Surfer’s head with his teeth.

Hulk Kills Silver Surfer Marvel Zombies

After that, the feeding frenzy is on and the other zombies squabble to swallow any bits of Norrin Radd they can. As if the horrors of zombies with superpowers weren’t enough, any of the undead fortunate enough to consume the Silver Surfer found themselves to be the beneficiaries of the Power Cosmic. That limitless godly energy is wielded by a group including Wolverine, Luke Cage, and a handful of others to assault Galactus after he arrives. The Devourer of Worlds ends up being devoured himself, in some of the most vicious poetic justice the Marvel universe has ever seen.

Zombie Hulk may have consumed the Silver Surfer out of an uncontrollable hunger for living flesh, but the two characters have squared off numerous times in the past. The Surfer has occasionally gotten the better of Bruce Banner’s greener half, once draining him of all Gamma radiation. But the Hulk came out on top during one of the former Defenders teammates’ most notable encounters, as gladiators on Sakaar during Planet Hulk. While they’ve traded victories in the past, Marvel Zombies makes it evident, when zombies and uncontrollable hunger are added into the equation, the Hulk comes out ahead.
