One element of the MCU's future that people are most excited about is the involvement of the X-Men. Seeing how they're used within the world set up by the MCU is something that has huge potential for storylines in future movies, and fans are eager to see these characters injected into the mix with the existing heroes and villains.

While new characters from the X-Men universe could be introduced that haven't been seen before in movies, the chances are that many will be ones that were used in the Fox movies. While those movies managed to bring some great characters to life like Wolverine, others could have been handled better, and hopefully, the MCU will bring them to life in a greater manner.

Gambit

Taylor Kitsch as Gambit in X-Men Origins Wolverine

Gambit is one of the most exciting characters from the X-Men world, but Fox was never able to get the best out of him. He has a great range of powers and his personality is a fun one, being someone who lives to the beat of his own drum and isn't shy about giving his opinions to others.

If handled correctly, Gambit could be one of the lead characters within an X-Men movie and hopefully, the MCU can get things right this time. His powers would blend in well with other heroes in the MCU such as Dr. Strange and Scarlet Witch, which could create some amazing fight scenes.

Rogue

Anna Paquin as Rogue in X-Men

Rogue is another brilliant character from the comics that wasn't fully used by Fox. She had smaller roles with each passing movie, which is a shame as her complex personality and amazing powers make her one of the most exciting members of the X-Men.

The MCU has been pushing strong female heroes in recent years, and Rogue could be at the focal point of that moving forwards. She's an incredibly powerful character with a great personality in the comics and hopefully, that's something that will be injected into the MCU. She also has an interesting history with Captain Marvel that could be brought to life.

Storm

Halle Berry as Storm in X-Men

Another amazing female mutant that didn't get the big featured spotlight she deserved was Storm. She was present in plenty of the Fox movies but was always more of a supporting role, rather than the main character that she should have been.

Being able to control the weather is one of the coolest powers that any superhero can have, and the MCU should really push that idea heavily. She could be a terrific leader of the group if the MCU decides not to use Wolverine for a while, but she would need some stronger writing to make that happen.

Apocalypse

Oscar Isaac in X-Men Apocalypse

The MCU did an amazing job building up of building up Thanos as a major villain over the course of several movies, and now people are wondering who could be the next in line for that. Well, that could be where Apocalypse steps in, as if handled correctly, he could be an excellent villain that would provide a threat to both the X-Men and The Avengers.

His handling by Fox wasn't the greatest, with the character not quite connecting with audiences or feeling like someone who should be feared. But considering his immense power, that should never have been the case.

Emma Frost

Another brilliant villain that could have been a much bigger character was Emma Frost. She's used only in a supporting role by Fox, and the character never developed much of her own personality outside of following along and helping Sebastian Shaw when needed.

However, if the MCU decided to bring the character back, hopefully, she would be given a much great role and a true purpose. Maybe the MCU could include the famous storyline where Frost and Cyclops become an item.

Nightcrawler

Alan Cumming looking angrily as Nightcrawler in X2 X-Men United

Nightcrawler was used often by Fox, but then he faded away, which is a shame because as a character, he is unique. Visually, he's one of the coolest characters to look at, and in terms of fighting ability, he has a fun style that can create some great scenes with an MMA style attack and his ability to vanish and pop up in different places.

The MCU has some tremendous fight scenes and characters like the Winter Soldier who do a lot of hand-to-hand combat are often the best. That is why Nightcrawler will likely be a great fit and will be handled much better. Outside of his debut White House fight, he didn't get a ton of action in the Fox movies.

Darwin

Darwin in X-Men Fist Class

Darwin's ability to adapt to any situation to survive is a power that could have been brilliant within a movie, however, Fox decided to kill this mutant off quickly, despite his powers. This made him one of the most forgettable characters that Fox brought to the X-Men movies.

While this is a character that the MCU could easily end up skipping over, choosing not to use due to the damage that has already been done to it, he could be a useful addition. His power alone makes him someone who can be adapted into a different situation to go against other villains.

Jubilee

Lana Condor as Jubilee in X-Men Apocalypse

Jubilee is another character that just wasn't created well in the Fox movies. She appeared in X-Men: Apocalypse, but wasn't made to be a featured character, and instead just blended in with the rest, which should never have been the case with her character.

She has an emotional backstory with her parents dying, which takes her to the group, and the fact she can shoot fireworks from her hands is a cool visual aspect that could look fantastic in the MCU. There's a reason she was the heart of X-Men: The Animated Series at times.

Sabretooth

Liev Schreiber's Sabertooth holds a lightbulb

When it comes to the X-Men movies that Fox has produced, Magneto has often been the focal point of the villains. However, another great villain that wasn't pushed as heavily as they should have been was Sabretooth.

He's an amazing character who can be pushed as a tremendous villain due to his physicality and his unstable mental state. That wasn't played upon during the Fox movies but hopefully, that changes within the MCU, as he could provide a great threat to the heroes.

Cyclops

Tye Sheridan as Cyclops in X-Men Apocalypse

Out of all the characters from X-Men movies that Fox created, the one that was wasted the most was Cyclops. He should've been one of the biggest lead heroes in them, but that was a role he was never given, which was a complete waste.

Cyclops is a leader, but someone who also has self-confidence issues, which if played on correctly can make for a fascinating character. With Captain America now gone from the MCU, Cyclops could be the perfect character to take on his mantle as the classic, lead hero, and hopefully, the MCU gets this one spot on.
