Marvel Studios has debuted the trailer for What If...?, the animated series coming to Disney+ next year. This news is but one of many reveals during Disney's investor day. In addition to What If...?, the company also premiered the long-awaited trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

What If...? is one of Marvel's more intriguing projects coming up. The series is based on the same concept as the comic book. In 1977, Marvel Comics published What If Spider-Man Joined the Fantastic Four? Comic readers know Spider-Man was turned down in The Amazing Spider-Man #1, but what if he was actually accepted? In the story, Spider-Man joins the team, turning the Fantastic Four into the Fantastic Five. It doesn't end happily, though, as Sue Storm goes with Namor after feeling neglected by the team. This is but one of many alternate reality stories, giving fans a look at how things could have turned out much differently in the world of Marvel. The upcoming animated series is playing with the same idea, but with the MCU. One scenario coming up is what if the Super Soldier Serum was given to Peggy Carter instead of Steve Rogers. That is just the tip of the iceberg.

During Disney's investor day, Marvel Entertainment released the trailer for What If...?, showing off alternate versions of the MCU. Ever wonder what would happen if Yondu picked up a young T'Challa instead of Peter Quill? The series will answer that, and more in summer, 2021. Check out the trailer below.

Like the comics, the Watcher appears to have a narrator role. Perhaps the two biggest alternate realities the trailer highlights is Peggy getting the serum, becoming a shield-carrying hero, and T'Challa as Star Lord rather than the Black Panther. It will also be interesting seeing how the story in Doctor Strange and Thor alters. Previously, a clip revealed Steve Rogers in Iron Man armor, so that will be one to watch for as well in Peggy's scenario.

The first season of What If...? will run for 10 episodes. It should be a fun and thoughtful viewing experience as fans see their favorite characters in new roles. Despite the show not even being out yet, Marvel already has What If...? season 2 in the works. It's not surprising. Considering there are over 20 films, the possibilities for What If...? scenarios are plentiful. If the trailer for season one is any indication, longtime MCU fans should be in for a treat.
