A new Funko Pop for Disney+'s animated Marvel Cinematic Universe series, Marvel's What If...?, confirms Killmonger becomes King of Wakanda. The show will explore key moments from the decade-old franchise, only featuring some altercations to the characters and events. The comic book anthology first began in 1977 and has become a hit with readers, resulting in its ongoing publication.

What If...? was one of a number of projects Marvel Studios announced to be in development for Disney+, with Tales of Arcadia alum A.C. Bradley serving as head writer for the series and frequent MCU storyboard artist Bryan Andrews directing. The cast will be led by Jeffrey Wright as the omniscient Watcher alongside the returns of a large portion of film stars, some of which include Hayley Atwell, Josh Brolin, Michael Douglas, Taika Waititi, Karen Gillan, Jeff Goldblum, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Michael B. Jordan and Chadwick Boseman in his final performance as T'Challa. Much like fellow Disney+ series Loki, a second season is already in development at the streaming platform.

Twitter user DisTrackers revealed a new Funko Pop for the series' iteration of Jordan's acclaimed antagonist, Killmonger. More interestingly, however, the box reveals that the Black Panther character is now king of his homeland Wakanda. Check out the new figure below:

The What If...? storyline opens the door up to infinite possibilities of changes within the MCU, making Killmonger's rise to the throne not as surprising. Especially given former Black Panther T'Challa is now up in space serving as Guardians of the Galaxy leader Star-Lord, the position of king has been left open for Killmonger to take for himself. But given the nature of the series' alternate reality stories, it does pose the question of whether Jordan's character is still acting as a general antagonist to Wakanda or if his appearance will take on something more of a protagonist without the resistance of an entire kingdom.

Given other leaked teases and trailers have pointed towards an evil Doctor Strange and a zombified Captain America, the door is certainly open for anything. As powerful as Killmonger was to watch as a villain in Black Panther, it would be interesting to see what a different path being left open for him could do for his personality and motivations. Only time will tell when Marvel's What If...? arrives on Disney+ in August.
