What If...? head writer A.C. Bradley previews what lies ahead in season 2 and reveals all of the scripts have been completed. This week marks the season 1 finale of Marvel's What If...?, and it's shaping up to be a dramatic one. The previous installment, episode 8, found the all-seeing Watcher (Jeffrey Wright) break his oath after Ultron Vision (Ross Marquand) broke through the multiverse armed with the power of all the Infinity Stones. The Watcher turned to Doctor Strange Supreme (Benedict Cumberbatch) for assistance, paving the way for the creation of the Guardians of the Multiverse.

What If...? is in a unique position in that season 2 was put into the works well before the series itself actually premiered. So far, only one other Marvel Disney+ show has been granted a sophomore run, and that's the live-action Loki. However, while that series can be counted on to continue the story it began in season 1, the format for What If...? season 2 isn't as clear. Luckily, A.C. Bradley has provided a little teaser about what's to come.

In an interview with EW about the What If...? season finale, Bradley took the time to reveal a little bit about season 2. First, she confirmed that all of the scripts have been written, meaning she already knows just where the series will go next. Bradley then went on to preview what the season will look like, explaining, "Going into the second season, we're sticking with anthology form, and it's going to be all-new stories, lots of fun, new heroes, and pulling more from Phase Four than we were obviously able to this season." Excitingly, that means some of the characters introduced in this year's MCU movies could factor into What If...?. Bradley added:

Hopefully, we'll see hints of Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Black Widow characters. The fun of What If...? is that we get to explore the entire infinite multiverse, so we try and bounce around as much as we can. I want to play with all these characters, and as much as I love Captain Carter, we've got to share the love. I'm very excited to show new worlds, new heroes.

As it has already been confirmed that What If...? season 2 will feature a Black Widow episode, it sounds like fans should also expect scenarios revolving around Shang-Chi and Eternals. Back in August, Bradley had stated the season 2 scripts were nearing completion, but weren't quite there. Now, though, they have all been finalized, which means the rest of the production process can move forward now. There's still a chance What If...? season 2 could premiere in late 2022, which would give fans plenty of time to watch the newest MCU movies and envision their ideal alternate scenarios.

Most of What If...? season 1 provided standalone stories, though the final episodes are tying some elements together. It isn't clear if the finale story will bleed into season 2, though fans can likely expect a few holdovers. Hayley Atwell's Captain Carter is already confirmed to return in season 2, which means any hero from What If...?'s first episodes could get pulled back into the action. Right now, much of the focus is on how this week's finale will come to a close, but there's still a lot more to be excited about in the future.
