Marvel Studios has multiple WandaVision spinoffs in development, and that means a Scarlet Witch movie must happen to continue the stories. The popularity of WandaVision on a week-to-week basis has led to the Disney+ show having a profound impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe's future. Marvel did not wait long to begin developing the Agatha: Coven of Chaos spinoff for Kathryn Hahn's character, but now Paul Bettany is returning as White Vision for Vision Quest too. Both of the shows could be places for Elizabeth Olsen to return as Wanda Maximoff, but neither are likely to give Scarlet Witch a major role.

The decision to make at least two WandaVision spinoffs could be part of Marvel's plans to build toward a Scarlet Witch movie. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness continued Scarlet Witch's story in a massive way, as it turned her into a multiverse villain. The plans for Agatha: Coven of Chaos and Vision Quest show Marvel's interest in continuing to expand on the corner of the MCU that Scarlet Witch is heavily tied to. A potential Scarlet Witch solo movie could be a place for Marvel to bring the WandaVision characters back together for an event film that puts Elizabeth Olsen's character back in the lead role.

Marvel’s Scarlet Witch Movie Can Help Redeem Wanda

Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

A Scarlet Witch solo movie happening after the WandaVision spinoffs could go a long way in helping the MCU redeem Wanda Maximoff. She has become one of the franchise's most popular characters in recent years, but her actions in WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2 did not sit well with everyone. Scarlet Witch is likely to be redeemed at some point so Marvel can continue to use her in the future as a hero. This will be easier to accomplish in a solo movie that focuses completely on her story and journey.

Doctor Strange 2 struggled with Wanda's villain turn due to a lack of time to thoroughly explore the switch, but a solo film can give Marvel the time needed to get audiences back in her corner. The Phase 4 film did end with Wanda seeing the error of her ways in trying to find her children. Since Marvel left a way for Scarlet Witch to still be alive, a solo movie set after Doctor Strange 2 and the WandaVision spinoffs can dive back into Wanda's story and her path to redemption. This could include learning more about her Scarlet Witch destiny, potential ties to the X-Men, and much more.

When A Scarlet Witch Solo Movie Can Happen

Marvel Studios has not announced plans to make a Scarlet Witch movie yet, but there is room for one to happen in the future. There are a few open MCU release dates in Phase 6 between Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars that the solo film could potentially meet if Marvel is already secretly developing it. Otherwise, a Scarlet Witch MCU movie might have to wait until Phase 7 to happen. This is more likely since Agatha: Coven of Chaos is not releasing until late 2023, while Vision Quest might not be ready until 2025. A Scarlet Witch movie in 2026 or 2027 is a realistic timeframe to continue WandaVision's overall story.
