Disney+ shows WandaVision and Loki stop production amid growing fears about the spread of the coronavirus. As the nation wrestles with new terms like "social distancing," the entertainment industry continues to do what it can to curb the spread of COVID-19, aka the coronavirus. Marvel Studios and its parent company, Disney, have taken aggressive actions, like halting production on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - a move that could cost Disney upwards of $300k a day. Additionally, Disney shut down its theme parks and stopped production on Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The Bucky and Falcon series isn't the only show Marvel Studios has in the works for Disney+. WandaVision and Loki are also both in production, as the studio gears up to bring its successful Marvel Cinematic Universe to the streaming service. Marvel even recently moved WandaVision's release date from Spring 2021 to sometime in 2020, to get the show out to viewers even sooner. As more shut down announcements rolled out, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before the plug was pulled on both these high-profile productions. There was even a rumor that Loki had already been shut down, but at the time of publication, it was unconfirmed. Sadly, that's no longer the case for either Marvel show.

Deadline confirmed the previously rumored shutdown of Loki and added that the studio would also halt production of WandaVision. Deadline had no additional information on the status of either series, but notes that at this point, Disney TV Studios has stopped only some series and all "in-cycle pilots."

WandaVision Title

Loki picks up with Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief in the custody of the Time Variance Authority, an organization dedicated to policing time travelers and monitoring the multiverse for signs of paradoxes. Most of the details about the show are under wraps. Still, we know that Hiddleston will be joined by Richard E. Grant, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Cailey Fleming, reportedly playing Enchantress.

WandaVision is a surreal twist on classic sitcom tropes with Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) sharing a bizarrely suburban domestic life, that may or may not all be in Wanda's broken psyche. Kat Dennings reprises her Thor: Dark World role as Darcy Lewis and Randall Park returns as Agent Woo. They'll also be joined by Teyonah Parris as an adult Monica Rambeau, and Kathryn Hahn as Wanda's nosy neighbor, a role that's been rumored to possibly be the villain manipulating Wanda behind the scenes.

It's still too early to tell how all these delays will affect Disney+'s programming plan for the remainder of 2020 and beyond, but there's a high likelihood that some of these show's premieres will be delayed. WandaVision could get pushed back to its originally planned release date, but that would leave Disney's new streaming service with a massive hole in its original content schedule. Loki, on the other hand, isn't due until 2021, so maybe it won't be hit as hard by the production delays. While these precautions are absolutely necessary, it's still disappointing to many fans that they'll have to wait a little bit longer to see the MCU on the small screen.
