Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue Avengers: Endgame's story with several different movies and TV shows. After eleven years of tying together an overarching narrative, Marvel Studios brought the Infinity Saga to a close at the end of Phase 3. Avengers: Endgame largely took place five years after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and saw what was left of the Avengers reunite to try and undo Thanos' snap.

To achieve this goal, the Avengers devised a plan that involved using the Quantum Realm to travel back in time and get the Infinity Stones for themselves. Although the plan was successful, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow had to sacrifice her life to get the Soul Stone. Once all six of the Infinity Stones were collected, Hulk used their power to bring everyone back. Later, Iron Man used the stones' power to snap the 2014 version of Thanos and his army out of existence, which sadly also resulted in Iron Man dying from the strain of using the Infinity Gauntlet. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, the Avengers roster took another hit when Captain America chose to stay in the past and live a full life with Peggy Carter after returning the Infinity Stones to their rightful locations.

Avengers: Endgame certainly wrapped up several storylines for the MCU, but the impact of the film's story will continue to play out across Phase 4. Marvel Studios announced the original plan for Phase 4 a few months after Avengers: Endgame was released, but the slate has changed dramatically since then. Delays caused by COVID-19 kept Phase 4 from starting on schedule, but the addition of some new movies and Disney+ shows give the MCU a bright future. And even though all of these projects will help push the MCU narrative further and expand the universe, many are still tied to Avengers: Endgame's story.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier's story is building off the ending of Avengers: Endgame. This isn't just because Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) will next be seen in a show set after the movie, but also because the premise for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is only possible after Steve Rogers gave Sam the Captain America shield. While Avengers: Endgame set Falcon up to be the new Captain America, we know that the decision for who will wield the shield moving forward will be a bit more complicated. The introduction of John Walker (Wyatt Russell) will see him become Captain America first. By exploring who will carry the shield next, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will also dive deep into the history of the super-soldier program and Cap's legacy.

Loki

Loki Avengers Endgame

Tom Hiddleston's return for Loki was only made possible through Avengers: Endgame's time travel missions. When part of the team went back to the events of The Avengers, they accidentally messed with that timeline. Their attempt to steal the Tesseract allowed it to fall into Loki's hands. The Disney+ Loki series will follow the god of mischief as his disturbance of the multiverse brings him into contact with the Time Variance Authority. The show is currently the only confirmed MCU property set entirely in a branched reality created by Avengers: Endgame.

Hawkeye

The Hawkeye Disney+ series will similarly pick up on some story threads left by Avengers: Endgame. Although the bulk of the show will see Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) train Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) to be the MCU's new Hawkeye, a portion of it will explore Clint's time as Ronin. His new title and suit were first shown in Avengers: Endgame, but the movie didn't give too much attention to what he did. Hawkeye will remedy this missed opportunity and show more of Clint's darker turn as Ronin through flashbacks to the five-year time jump from Avengers: Endgame.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange and Thanos in Avengers Endgame

Since Avengers: Endgame was the first MCU property to explore visiting alternate timelines across the multiverse, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will continue that adventure. Not much about the sequel's story is known at this point, but it is clear from the title that the multiverse is central to it. With Doctor Strange seeing 14,000,605 realities in Avengers: Infinity War and then seeing the lone scenario where they win play out in front of him in Avengers: Endgame, it will be fascinating to see what happens next for him. And with all of the Infinity Stones reduced to atoms (leaving Strange without the Time Stone), that could make his job even more difficult.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor Chris Hemsworth St Abbs New Asgard

Thor: Love and Thunder will continue many different pieces of Avengers: Endgame's story. Although it appears Fat Thor won't be one of them, the movie's ending will have many repercussions for Thor 4. Thor left Earth and the Asgardians behind to find himself in the cosmos. This included joining the Guardians of the Galaxy for the time being, and it is confirmed some of them will be featured in the movie. We also know that Valkyrie is now King of New Asgard, and her new title and the current residence of the Asgardian people will factor into Thor: Love and Thunder. And with the addition of Mighty Thor, it is possible Thor's worthiness will once again come into play after he realized he was still worthy in Avengers: Endgame.

Armor Wars

It is likely that Armor Wars will be somewhat built around the ending of Avengers: Endgame. The new Disney+ series starring War Machine (Don Cheadle) is based on a comic run where Tony Stark's armor is stolen, and he must track it down so it stays out of the wrong hands. This project's timing coming to the MCU means it will happen after Tony's death in Avengers: Endgame. If the absence of Iron Man in the MCU gives whoever is behind such a theft the audacity to pull this off, then Armor Wars will build off Avengers: Endgame after all.

Ironheart

Iron Man in Avengers Endgame and Ironheart in Marvel Comics

Similar to how Armor Wars could be born out of Iron Man's death in Avengers: Endgame, the emergence of Riri Williams in Ironheart could be the same. As the future of the Iron Man mantle, Riri's story will inevitably be impacted by what happened to Stark. It is currently unknown if they had an existing relationship before his passing, but Ironheart could also be a chance to bring back a version of Tony. Avengers: Endgame saw Tony leave a holographic recording of himself in case he died, which could potentially be set up for the A.I. version of him that accompanied Riri early on in her superhero days in the comics.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Antman and the Wasp Quantumania

The events of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will likely be born from what happened in Avengers: Endgame. The sequel will feature Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), who is a villain known for conquering universes across the multiverse and time. It is largely expected that Kang will be tied to the Quantum Realm in the MCU, so the Avengers using the realm to time travel in Avengers: Endgame could be how Kang finds them. Or, their continued experiments with the Quantum Realm could bring them to cross paths with Kang. Either way, Avengers: Endgame's time travel should be connected to Ant-Man 3's story.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Gamora and Star Lord Kiss Next To A Logo For Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

One more property set up by Avengers: Endgame is the plot of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. James Gunn's sequel was originally meant to kick off Phase 4, but it will now arrive in 2023. Avengers: Endgame's finale saw the return of Gamora using time travel, but she didn't stay with the Guardians at the end. With the movie's ending showing Star-Lord searching for her, finding Gamora should be a big part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
