Loki is confirmed to join Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order as the game's 35th playable character. The God of Mischief is the latest villain to take part in the action in the upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive.

The four-player RPG and long-awaited third installment in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 series was officially announced at The Game Awards 2018 in December. The game unites the Avengers, X-Men, Inhumans, Spider-Verse, and the Guardians of the Galaxy for an epic battle with Thanos and his minions, the Black Order. Players form teams of four characters and travel across various areas of the Marvel Universe in search of the Infinity Stones.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Marvel Games released a launch trailer for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order which confirms Loki will join the game as a playable character. A previous trailer revealed that Loki would be present in the game as a boss, but this is the first official confirmation that the villain will be playable. As for Loki's playstyle, footage shows Loki using frost giant and illusion powers.

Loki is one of only a handful of playable villains in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. Others include Magneto and Venom. Combining villains into a single team will give players a special "team bonus". Since Magneto, Loki, and Venom are all known to be bosses in the game, it's possible that the player will have to defeat them before unlocking them and adding them to the team. Loki also gives players access to an additional magic-using character. Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange are already featured in the game's diverse roster of Marvel heroes and villains.

Earlier this week, Loki's status as a playable character was leaked on both Reddit and GameFAQs with an image of the game's box art, which features Loki alongside the other 34 playable characters in the game's base roster. Loki's inclusion always seemed likely, given his relationship with Thor and popularity due to his appearances in several Marvel movies. The God of Mischief won't be going away anytime soon, since a Loki TV series is on its way to Disney+. It will be interesting to see how Loki fits into the game's story - given his history in the comics and his connection to the Infinity Stones in the MCU, it's not hard to imagine that Loki will play an integral role in the hunt for the Stones in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.
