Nintendo has released a new trailer for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order which reveals that Captain Marvel is joining the game's roster of super heroes. The trailer also includes more details on what to expect from the upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 pits the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, and more against Thanos and his five henchmen, the Black Order. The Black Order were previously featured alongside Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

At The Game Awards 2018 in December, Nintendo officially unveiled Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order for the Nintendo Switch. The game is the long-awaited sequel to 2008's Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and the third installment in the fan-favorite RPG series. Inspired by the X-Men Legends series, the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games are known for their squad-based gameplay where players assemble teams of four super heroes.

During today's Nintendo Direct presentation (via Marvel), a new trailer was released for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, which shows off some of the game's 4-player online co-op and new playable characters, including Captain Marvel, whose solo film is set to hit theaters next month. In the trailer, Captain Marvel's Binary powers are on full display. Carol Danvers was playable in the last two installments as well, but only as "Ms. Marvel", since Danvers didn't take the "Captain Marvel" mantle until 2012. Other playable characters announced during the Direct were Iron Fist, Storm, and Venom.

Previously revealed characters include several members of the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, and Wolverine. Among the characters who are completely new to the franchise are Scarlet Witch, Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Falcon, Crystal, and Lockjaw. It's worth noting that the new trailer name drops the Defenders and the X-Men, which is a strong indication that the game's full roster has yet to be revealed. It's unlikely that Wolverine and Storm are the only X-Men representatives, and since the only Defender that's been show so far is Iron Fist, more characters should be expected to be unveiled in the near future. The most notable Marvel heroes missing from both trailers are Hawkeye, Black Panther, Daredevil, and several major members of the X-Men.

One of the biggest appeals of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games is that they let players mix and match their own teams of heroes by choosing from a diverse cast of characters pulled from multiple corners of the Marvel Universe. By encompassing the Avengers, the X-Men, the Guardians, street-level heroes, and members of the Inhumans, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 appears to be no exception to the rule.
