An era of Marvel TV is coming to an end with Agents of SHIELD finishing its seventh and final season, but there are still several Marvel shows releasing in the future. In the aftermath of The Avengers breaking box office records, Marvel Television increased its output to make Marvel TV shows alongside the MCU that linked as narrative annexes. Agents of SHIELD was the first to arrive on ABC in 2013, with Netflix, Hulu, and Freeform also getting shows down the road.
Fast forward to 2020 and Marvel Television is no more. Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige was promoted in 2019 to the Chief Creative Officer of Marvel, putting him in charge of TV and comics, in addition to his continued oversight of the MCU. With his new leadership, Jeph Loeb left Marvel Television and Feige rebranded the division as Marvel TV Studios and made significant changes to the planned slate of Marvel movies. This also saw the focus of the studio shift away from network releases and almost exclusively develop shows for Disney+. A Ghost Rider series starring Gabriel Luna was canceled, several animated shows for Hulu were scrapped, and it was announced that Cloak & Dagger and Runaways would not be renewed.
Now that Agents of SHIELD is concluding as well, the majority of the upcoming Marvel TV shows will be found on Disney+. However, there are still some shows leftover from the previous era of the company that are still in various stages of development. Here's a complete list of Marvel TV shows releasing after Agents of SHIELD's seven-season run.
Falcon & Winter Soldier
Marvel Studios is scheduled to begin a new era for Marvel TV with the release of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney+. The series stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, picking up their stories after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Originally, the series was set to be released on Disney+ in August but it was later delayed due to coronavirus. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is still to finish what little remains of its production and no new release date has yet been announced.
WandaVision
Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany will return to the MCU to star in WandaVision, as they'll play Scarlet Witch and an apparently no-longer dead Vision respectively. The Disney+ show originally had a 2021 release date but was moved up to December 2020 at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, COVID-19 also might prevent this from happening. WandaVision still has some filming left, but it has yet to be pushed back to 2021 at this time. It will be tied to the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is now not hitting theaters until 2022.
Loki
Marvel Studios is also working on Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston as the god of mischief, for Disney+. The show will follow the alternate universe version of Loki who escaped from the Avengers using the Tesseract during Avengers: Endgame's time travel. Marvel previously announced a spring 2021 release for the series, but it had to stop filming just a few weeks into production due to coronavirus. If the series is able to resume work shortly, there is a chance Loki will still be released on Disney+ sometime next spring. From the details released about Loki so far, it looks to be one of the essential Disney+ watches.
What If...?
Disney+ will also be the home of Marvel's What If...? animated show. The series was announced in 2019 and will put twists on known events or characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Footage from What If...? prominently teased Peggy Carter becoming Captain America instead of Steve Rogers, while other episodes will see T'Challa take Peter Quill's place as Star-Lord and Bucky fight a zombie Captain America. The show has had its production impacted by COVID-19 and is still expected to be released on Disney+ summer 2021.
Hawkeye
Jeremy Renner is also returning as Clint Barton for a Hawkeye TV show on Disney+. The series will continue his story after Avengers: Endgame and show Clint train Marvel's next sharpshooter, Kate Bishop. Hawkeye previously received a Fall 2021 release window from Marvel, which might still be possible. The series might begin filming in the next few months, and that would put it on track for a fall 2021 release under normal circumstances.
Ms. Marvel
The fan-favorite and growingly popular character Kamala Khan will get her own Disney+ series too. Ms. Marvel was announced at D23 2019 as an addition to Marvel's plans for Disney's streaming service. It will follow the young Pakistani, Inhuman, Captain Marvel superfan, but Marvel did not reveal a release date. At the time, Ms. Marvel was believed to be a show that could release in 2022 but there was later some evidence to suggest a 2021 release was planned. However, Marvel has yet to officially announce when the show will arrive.
She-Hulk
Jennifer Walters will be the star of a She-Hulk series for Disney+ too. She is the cousin of Bruce Banner in the comics who becomes She-Hulk after he performs an emergency blood transfusion. With Banner's DNA, the lawyer gains the same Hulk abilities as her cousin. Marvel did not announce a release date for She-Hulk when the series was announced in 2019, and there have not been any clear signs of when it will arrive on Disney+. But, the current slate of MCU-Disney+ content and possible delays point to a 2022 release at the earliest.
Moon Knight
Marvel Studios is also developing a Moon Knight show for Disney+. In the comics, Moon Knight is a schizophrenic man named Marc Spector who gains superhero abilities from the Egyptian god Khonshu, or at least that's what he believes. Like Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk, Marvel did not reveal a release date for Moon Knight when it was announced in 2019 and so far there have been no casting updates on who will play Moon Knight. The best-case scenario for the show is likely to be on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
Marvel's 616
Another Marvel show coming to Disney+ is Marvel's 616, which is very different from the rest of the shows mentioned above and later. Marvel's 616 is an anthology documentary series chronicling the creation of Marvel characters. Teasers for the first season have shown segments dedicated to Kamala Khan, Black Panther, and more. Despite the promotion, Marvel and Disney+ have yet to announce an official release date for the series, but Marvel's 616 will arrive sometime in 2020.
Helstrom
Even though the trailer might not make it clear, Hulu's Helstrom is a Marvel show. The series stars one of Marvel's supernatural characters from the comics Daimon Helstrom (the son of Satan) and will follow him and his family. Hulu debuted the first trailer for the horror series Helstrom during Comic-Con@Home and announced that the entire first season will be available to binge starting October 16th.
Hit Monkey
Hulu is also still developing a Hit Monkey animated series. For those unfamiliar with the character of Hit-Monkey, he is a Japanese snow monkey who is trained by the ghost of an American assassin to become a deadly hitman. The series is being written by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, and the last update on Hit Monkey was that the show was still moving forward at Hulu. Hit Monkey was originally intended to be part of four shows dedicated to Marvel's The Offenders - including also M.O.D.O.K., Tigra & Dazzler, and Howard The Duck, but Marvel pulled the plug on the latter two.
M.O.D.O.K.
Hulu is also developing an animated show starring one of Marvel's weirdest villain, M.O.D.O.K. The series is said to be aimed more at adults and has Patton Oswalt serving as a producer and voice of the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing. It was reported in early 2020 that M.O.D.O.K. remained on track to debut on Hulu sometime this year, but no official release date has been given to the animated series. It's certainly different to Agents of SHIELD, but different isn't always a bad thing.
