Marvel's Thunderbolts movie cast has now added Steven Yeun in a major role meant to keep him part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years to come. Marvel Studios announced plans for a Thunderbolts movie at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 with a cast that includes fan-favorite characters like Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), and Red Guardian (David Harbour). The movie is also scheduled to bring back other familiar faces from the MCU like US Agent, Ghost, Taskmaster, and Valentina, while The Bear's Ayo Edebiri was the first major new casting for the film.

According to a report from Deadline, the Thunderbolts cast now included former The Walking Dead star Steven Yeun in what is described as a "significant" character in the movie who will also have "a major role going forward in future films." The casting comes after Yeun starring Jordan Peele's Nope last year and earned an Oscar nomination for his role in Minari a few years ago. While he is still best known for playing Glenn on The Walking Dead, joining the MCU will not be Steven Yeun's first superhero role. He currently voices Mark Grayson on Invincible.

Marvel Characters Steven Yeun Could Play In MCU's Thunderbolts Movie

Steven Yeun's Thunderbolts casting coming with the secrecy about who he could play leaves room for speculation to begin about what Marvel character from the comics he might be. There have been rumors that Sentry is the movie's villain, but no one has been cast for such a role yet. If those rumors are true, it is possible that Steven Yeun is playing Sentry in Thunderbolts. This would ironically give him another superhero to play who is nearly invincible, like Mark Grayson.

Marvel could also deliver a bit of a surprise when it comes to Steven Yeun's Thunderbolts character and reveal him to be Amadeus Cho, also known as Totally Awesome Hulk or Brawn. Yeun is of South Korean descent just like Amadeus Cho is in the comics. While much of the speculation concerning a Hulk being in Thunderbolts has been focused on Harrison Ford becoming Red Hulk, introducing Amadeus Cho after She-Hulk: Attorney At Law could work. He could even be the "villain" of the film if Cho's powers only recently manifest and he is unable to control them at first.

There are plenty of other Marvel characters Steven Yeun could play in Thunderbolts. Plenty of theories have linked Doctor Doom to the movie, and that would be a significant role for Yeun to play going forward. He could also be regular Thunderbolts members like Atlas or Fixer. With Thunderbolts set to begin filming later this year, hopefully Marvel Studios will confirm Steven Yeun's character's identity before too long.
