The Thunderbolts is Marvel's version of the Suicide Squad and could well be making their own MCU big-screen debut down the line. The team has consisted of a range of rogues, each more bizarre than the last. It's also had a range of maniacal and heroic leaders, from Norman Osborn and the Kingpin to Luke Cage.

Amongst the roster though, there have been some ridiculous villains who not only look totally strange but also have even odder personalities or abilities. From classic Marvel baddies to lesser-known thugs, these characters have certainly made their mark on the Thunderbolts, whether they wanted to or not.

Mister Fear

Mister Fear in his death mask holding a gun in Marvel Comics

Mister Fear uses a range of chemical reactions to invoke complete terror in his victims. Oftentimes, he wears a specially designed mask to not only intensify the reaction but also to protect himself; however, Mister Fear is perhaps even more terrifying with his mask off.

Made mad from his own formulas, Mister Fear's personality is sadistic and his appearance is animal-like. Comparable to a crow or rat, Mister Fear doesn't act with any more honor than the lowliest of beasts. He managed to survive on Kingpin's Thunderbolts team, but he creeped out the other members of the squad.

Figment

Kingpins Thunderbolts including characters like Figment and Taskmaster in a lineup

Figment was a close friend of Mister Fear, and he had quite the odd ability to morph someone's mind. She could create new realities inside their heads, which the Thunderbolts would use to their advantage in the fight against the King in Black, Knull.

Quiet, strangely dressed, and with a terrifyingly shy yet sadistic personality, it appears that Figment might be just as mad as Mister Fear, if not even more deranged. Figment may have barely been featured yet but is clearly going to help secure Kingpin as a giant in New York in the future of Marvel.

Ai Apaec

When building his own Dark Avengers and Thunderbolts team, Norman Osborn turned to the entity known as Ai Apaec to masquerade as the black-suited Spider-Man. The creature was terrifying, boasting six dangerous arms that made him appear more monster than man.

What was stranger though was that Ai Apaec was actually a god. Worshipped in Peru, this was one of the few members of the Thunderbolts that could actually be found on a godly Pantheon, making him far more powerful than the traditional members of the group.

Jester

Jester dressed like jester in Marvel Comcis

Jester is one of Marvel's oddest villains. Obsessed with the Jester personality, the character dresses in the sort of attire fans would expect from the King's Court. Jester also has the incredible gift of being revived time and time again, despite being killed off on multiple occasions.

There's a number of characters that have taken on the Jester role too, many of which have served in the Thunderbolts in some form. Certifiably insane, Jester utilizes an array of themed weapons that have pushed many heroes to their limits, even if they are a bit gimmicky.

Blackheath

The Green and plant like Blackheath in Marvel Comics

There's plenty of established villains that could play a part in the MCU's iteration of the Thunderbolts, but when looking at the comics a standout has to be Blackheath. This plant-based creature is certainly an odd one in the group's history and yet one of Marvel's lesser-known characters.

Gaining his abilities after an accident, Blackheath can control plant life and appears as a botanical beast. Similar to creatures like Man-Thing or Swamp-Thing in the DC Universe, he really is an oddly designed character and his powers are vast and varied in terms of what he can do with the flora around him.

Satana

Satana in a red costume surrounded by fire in Marvel Comics

Satana is another classic Marvel character who has been around for a long time despite not becoming widely recognized. She may be another powerful member of the Thunderbolts, but she is one that is traditionally used to working solo, to follow her own self-interests.

More of an anti-hero, Satana comes from a Hellish background. With demon parents, not only does Satana carry with her satanic powers, but she is often mistrusted because of her origins. She's manipulative, a sorceress, and incredibly dangerous. Her odd human and demonic heritage certainly makes the character unique.

Foolkiller

Foolkiller in full armor brandishing a gun in Marvel Comics

Foolkiller has a variety of dangerous weaponry which he uses to quite literally kill fools. The original version of the character took a more religious approach to his killings, whereas the more recent iteration killed those without any poetry in their souls.

He has served as a member of Deadpool's Mercs for Money group for some time and then teamed up with Kingpin's Thunderbolts. He ultimately paid the price in combat, getting killed while running a mission. The character was therefore only a short-lived member of the team.

Charcoal

The grey beast Charcoal in Marvel Comics

To start, Charcoal is just that - a giant pile of rubble. Looking just like a lump of coal, this monstrous being is one of the more intimidating characters to have served in the Thunderbolts. Like so many others, Charcoal began life as a science experiment.

With his father working with Doctor Arnim Zola, his abilities were a result of meddling with human DNA. He left the Imperial Forces where he had grown up and actually requested to join the Thunderbolts. He ultimately fell in battle against Graviton, with his name getting added to the long list of those who died in service to the team.

Kobik

The Cosmic Cube has been featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although in the form of the Tessaract. As one of the many Infinity Stones, it was largely focused on as one aspect of the Infinity Gauntlet. In the comics, though the object is far more complex.

Strangely, a character was created from the Cube. Becoming its physical embodiment, Kobik was born. She could shift reality and has aligned herself with the Thunderbolts and the Avengers in the past. A cosmic entity like Kobik is definitely difficult to get to grips with.

Grizzly

Grizzly dressed as a bear in the city in Marvel Comics.

It's not every day that Marvel creates a character that wears a suit that gives the impression of a Grizzly bear. This exoskeleton actually gives Grizzly his much-needed powers, such as his strength and endurance. That was until the Green Goblin's involvement.

Norman Osborn captured Grizzly and forced him into the Thunderbolts. After extensive experimentation he no longer needed the suit for his abilities; that didn't mean he stopped wearing the strange costume altogether though. Later on, Grizzly jumped from prison to prison after his time with the team, still doing evil deeds.
