When you work in close quarters with someone, emotions can be inevitable. Will you become frenemies or lovers? Apparently, if you're a gorgeous superstar, the answer is more likely to be the second one.

Lots of actors engage in brief flings and hookups with their co-stars. They spend a year on a movie set, so it's easy to get extremely close.

While some get close and then leave to do it all over again, others keep their star-studded relationships going for years at a time and more than a few have even married their former co-workers. The stars of Marvel movies are no exception... but not always. Sometimes, the co-stars are simply just close friends.

Did you hear the rumors about Benedict Cumberbatch and Liv Tyler's relationship? Did they date or were they just friends? What about Thor co-stars Tom Hiddleston and Kat Dennings? What's really going on between Lupita Nyong'o and Michael B. Jordan? Also, have Zendaya and Tom Holland realized they are perfect for each other, yet?

Well, keep reading because we've found the answers. We've managed to separate the facts from rumors.

From Chris Pratt and Emily VanCamp to Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr, here are the 10 Marvel Stars Who Dated In Real Life (And 5 Who Are Just Friends).

Dated: Elizabeth Olsen And Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston & Elizabeth Olsen in I Saw The Light

The year 2015 saw two movies starring Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston debut: I Saw The Light and Avengers: Age Of Ultron... kind of. Hiddleston's Loki was actually supposed to be featured in Ultron, but was ultimately cut from the movie.

Apparently, early screenings of the movie left viewers assuming that Loki was controlling Ultron, so Joss Whedon cut Hiddleston's appearance for clarity.

I Saw The Light told the story of country musician Hank Williams. Hiddleston played Williams and Olsen played Williams' wife, Audrey Mae Williams. They were also both present in the most recent Avengers sequel, Infinity War, and are said to both be in the untitled fourth Avengers movie.

In May 2015, reports began to circulate that Hiddleston and Olsen were dating. There was no confirmation at the time, but the couple did end up "officially going public" not long after.

In July 2015, Olsen and Hiddleston were seen hanging out in Oxford. Two days later, the pair was photographed sharing a taxi as they headed to a showing of Guardians of the Galaxy's Bradley Cooper's The Elephant Man.

Sources at the time said that neither actor was looking for a serious relationship, but that they were "good" for each other as they really did "care" for one another.

Dated: Ben Affleck And Jennifer Garner

The relationship history between Daredevil's (not the Netflix series) Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner is... messy, to say the least. There were lots of reports that Affleck had cheated on Garner, while others claimed that she was both domineering and a doormat.

She was essentially villainized for staying with a reputed cheater and assumptions were made about her personality because of her decision. Reports then circulated about the couples' allegedly turbulent on-again-off-again relationship.

They were frequently reported to be nearing their breaking point and then reconciling for the sake of their children.

Affleck and Garner finally divorced after spending ten years together.

Despite all the reports of a crumbling relationship and trust issues, the couple said that they were separating because it was just time to. They claimed that there was "no catalyst" for the divorce.

Insiders claimed that the couple attempted to reconcile via rehab but ultimately failed to work through their issues. They promised to portray themselves as a united front for their children, and have been known to vacation together in order for the former couple to both be available to their children.

The couple had previously met on the set of the often maligned Daredevil movie, in which Affleck played Daredevil to Garner's Elektra.

Just Friends: Benedict Cumberbatch And Liv Tyler

Benedict Cumberbatch plays two roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Doctor Strange and Tom Holland's spoiler babysitter. The part he never played was a boyfriend to The Incredible Hulk actress Liv Tyler.

Tyler played the love interest, Betty Ross, to Edward Norton's Bruce Banner in 2008. Tyler played Arwen in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Cumberbatch provided voice work for Smaug and Necromancer in The Hobbit.

Reports claimed that Cumberbatch and Tyler were dating in 2012, long before his addition to the MCU. There were even photos circulating of the two supposedly on a movie date together. They were also spotted at a post-Emmy's party together.

However, a representative for Cumberbatch would later respond to the reports, saying that the two were just friends.

The representative clarified that the two were spending time together as co-workers and friends because they were both starring in a play entitled Phoenix. The play told the story of a couple who participated in a one-night stand.

There isn't any reason not to take the rep's word for it. Tyler was seen grabbing dinner alone the following night and the two were never really spotted getting close after the initial reports were shot down.

Dated: Chris Evans And Jessica Biel

Long before she was half of the power couple that is Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake and long before Chris Evans was breaking hearts by dating and then breaking up with comedian Jenny Slate (twice), the two stars dated.

Biel appeared in Blade: Trinity as Abigail Whistler and Evans has been in both Fantastic Four and Captain America/Avengers franchises, though he is most famous for the latter.

There isn't much out there about this low-key couple, save for tons of photos of the two attending red carpet events side-by-side. It must have been a relief that the two hooked up before the dawn of the social media era.

Evans and Biel actually dated for five years. The two were apparently quite active together-- they once went skydiving for Valentine's Day.

The pair starred in two movies together, London and Cellular. Biel claimed that knowing each other prior to the movies made their on-set experience much more pleasurable.

According to Biel, Evans was quite the romantic and even covered her bed in rose petals for her birthday. She also revealed that they both wanted to get married and have kids and that they would talk about their relationship plans all the time before they eventually broke up.

No official reason was ever given for Biel and Evans' split.

Dated: Paul Bettany And Jennifer Connelly

Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly

Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly both technically play robots in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bettany is, obviously, Vision, the android member of the Avengers and bearer of the Mind Stone. Meanwhile, Connelly plays Karen, the voice of Peter Parker's enhanced Spidey suit, which was gifted to him by Tony Stark.

The couple first met 17 years ago on the set of A Beautiful Mind in 2001. Connelly revealed that she had a lot of respect for Bettany's acting skills during their first script read.

Bettany was also blown away by Connelly, admitting that he was intimidated by her beauty at first. This was the spark that would lead to their long-term relationship.

Bettany and Connelly were basically inseparable after finishing A Beautiful Mind. They went on to marry in 2003, just two years after they first met.

The couple shares two children and have worked on many movies together following A Beautiful Mind. Connelly later admitted that it was Bettany's guitar playing skills that sealed the deal.

She claimed that he began playing and "it was all over." It wasn't that immediate, however, because Bettany had to propose to Connelly twice.

He revealed that he had prematurely proposed in 2001 over the phone very, very early in their relationship. Ouch. She agreed but said that wasn't ready yet.

His second proposal, thankfully, took place face-to-face.

Just Friends: Tom Holland And Zendaya

Marvel fans are totally shipping Spider-Man: Homecoming co-stars Tom Holland and Zendaya. However, it looks like they will have to keep waiting.

Rumors constantly link the two together romantically. Anonymous sources claimed that Holland and Zendaya were not only dating, but that Holland had actually met her parents. The sources claimed that the couple was very close and that her parents definitely approved of the alleged relationship.

Zendaya said that the rumors were expected, and that it was all just part of show business. The two friends addressed the rumors over Twitter, making jokes out of the reports that they had read.

Zendaya claimed that her favorite rumors were the ones that claimed that the two of them even vacationed together. The actress stated that she hadn't had a vacation in a year and asked Holland if he had had the privilege of having one. Holland responded by asking if their Homecoming press tour counted as a vacation, which left Zendaya laughing.

While some noted that the Twitter exchange didn't straight out deny their relationship, other fans later caught Holland's use of the word "mate" when commending her Met Gala look. Some took this as evidence that Holland regarded Zendaya as just a friend.

Dated: Ben Affleck And Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Affleck dated way back in the day, long before their messy divorces and Marvel careers. Paltrow, obviously, plays Tony Stark's love interest and wrangler, Pepper Potts in the Iron Man and Avengers movies. Meanwhile, Affleck played Daredevil before the Netflix series adaptation.

However, before all that, for three years starting in 1997, they were boyfriend and girlfriend. The two starred in two movies together, the period romance Shakespeare in Love, for which Paltrow won an Academy Award for Best Actress, and Bounce.

Years after their split, Paltrow spilled her side of the secrets behind her relationship with Affleck to Howard Stern. The actress said that they had never married because she didn't think he was in the right space to be a boyfriend at the time.

She claimed to have been with Affleck in order to try to subconsciously work through something "specific" from her childhood. Paltrow then admitted to having been sort of shallow when dating Affleck.

The actress said that, being so young, sometimes people confuse good looks with a good relationship.

She implied that she was immature at the time and that she has since learned her lesson about what it means to be in a healthy relationship. Paltrow is currently engaged to American Horror Story showrunner Brad Falchuck.

Dated: Robert Downey Jr. And Marisa Tomei

Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr. and Aunt May actress Marisa Tomei dated back in the day, in the mid-1990s. While his break-up with Sarah Jessica Parker was reportedly tumultuous, his break-up with Tomei was nothing but amicable.

So, amicable, in fact, that they have remained close friends ever since. The two worked together frequently throughout the years, both before and after their break-up.

They were both featured in the '90s movies Chaplin and Only You, and both were reunited onscreen in Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Tomei says that her ex-boyfriend was actually the reason why she was hired as the young Aunt May. She says that Downey Jr. recommended her for the part.

Downey Jr. has since sparked rumors that Aunt May and Tony Stark may end up in a relationship together. He has jokingly pointed out her youthful appearance and has hinted at "the possibilities."

Tomei is frequently regarded as a great kisser onscreen, which may explain his hope for such a storyline. Last year, a reported friend of Tomei's supposedly revealed the actress' reason for never having been married.

According to the unnamed source, Tomei has simply been too busy pursuing her movie career and has been satisfied with her life choice in that regard.

Just Friends: Michael B. Jordan And Lupita Nyong’o

He may have played the villain in Marvel's Black Panther, but fans can't wait to see Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong'o together onscreen again. Ironically, Nyong'o played T'Challa's love interest, Nakia, in the movie.

Many fans enjoy the co-stars' adorable, playful banter. Nyong'o won a bet against Jordan, earning the right to demand push-ups from the Killmonger actor.

She has taken advantage of this, forcing him to perform push-ups at various media events throughout their Black Panther press tour. They also seemed to be playfully flirting with each other, speaking about chocolate cake and dessert as they were ribbing each other over a competitive taping of MTV's Safe Word.

The Twitter exchange was later deleted, but not before rousing shippers' suspicions that more was going on between these two.

While many believe that there is a lot of evidence of a Nyong'o/Jordan romance, the two have never confirmed a relationship. They have, however, addressed the rumors, and very subtly denied the alleged romance.

Nyong'o refused to give a straight answer on her relationship status, stating that reporters can ask but that they "won't get an answer."

She acknowledges that there are tons of rumors, but she won't let the media into that aspect of her life. Jordan, on the other hand, gave a small glimpse into his love life. He revealed that he was indeed dating, but technically still single.

Dated: Scarlett Johansson And Ryan Reynolds

Deadpool may have been rejected by the Avengers, but at one point, Scarlett Johansson said "yes" to Ryan Reynolds. Not only did the two Marvel stars date, but they were actually married for a while.

However, almost nobody knew about it. These two megastars managed to keep their romance so under wraps that the world was shocked when we learned of their ultimate divorced.

How could they divorce when nobody knew they were married? Okay, that may be a little bit of an exaggeration, but these two definitely kept the details of their relationship secret for the most part.

Johansson and Reynolds began dating in 2007, two years before Johansson's Marvel fame. However, by the time she signed on for Iron Man 2 in 2009, the pair was already married, having tied the knot in 2008.

They kept details largely to themselves, even when faced with rumors that their union was full of cracks. Both partners did reference being married in separate interviews, noting that life had changed.

By 2010, Johansson and Reynolds had decided to split. They issued a response stating that they had both entered and left their marriage with love. They also told the public that they would appreciate privacy but that they were not expecting it.

Dated: Chris Pratt And Emily VanCamp

Aside from the unavoidable rumors of an affair with Jennifer Lawrence during the Passengers press tour, the only romance that most people would recognize in connection with Chris Pratt was with his ex-wife Anna Faris.

Pratt and Faris were together for a very long time. They were married for just over eight years and shared a son together. Pratt and Faris began their love story before his rise to fame in Parks and RecreationJurassic World, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

So, it makes sense that this would be the relationship that is most closely tied to him. Plus, he and Faris were utterly adorable together every time they went out in public.

However, before Faris, Pratt was linked to another leading lady: his Everwood co-star Emily VanCamp. The two actually played brother and sister in the series.

VanCamp later reminisced about her time on-set with Pratt, which largely resulted in Pratt eating a bunch between takes.

Pratt, obviously, stars as the charming rogue, Peter Quill in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. VanCamp plays Sharon Carter, niece of Peggy Carter, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Though they both star in Marvel movies, they have yet to appear in the same movie.

Just Friends: Elizabeth Olsen And Chris Evans

When two attractive actors work together and seem friendly off-screen, there are going to be relationship rumors-- especially if those two attractive and friendly actors star in one of the biggest superhero franchises in the world.

Rumors had hinted that Scarlet Witch actress Elizabeth Olsen and Captain America actor Chris Evans were together for years before the two finally addressed the reports during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.

Olsen and Evans laughed off the idea of the two of them being in a relationship together. The actress noted that they had allegedly been dating for three years and then jokingly claimed that they were actually engaged.

The co-stars joked around some more, saying that they had considered moving in together but that they really don't even talk to each other when they aren't performing together.

DeGeneres took the friends at their word, but suggested that they actually consider hooking up for real. Perhaps photos like this one with Evans seemingly staring at Olsen's cleavage helped to add fuel to the fire, with rumors instantly flying around that they were secretly dating.

Olsen looks great, though, so you can't really blame him for noticing that his co-star is just totally amazing.

Dated: Zoe Saldana And Bradley Cooper

Rory lays with Dora in bed in The Words

Zoe Saldana plays the serious, kick-butt warrior Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, while Bradley Cooper plays the feisty and furry Rocket Raccoon in the same series.

Zoe Saldana's husband Marco Perego made waves when he took on her name after their 2013 wedding, becoming Marco Perego-Saldana. However, just months before, she had broken up with her Marvel Cinematic Universe co-star Bradley Cooper.

Saldana and Cooper first started dating while co-starring in The Words in 2011. The two only dated for three months before calling it quits.

They would later reunite just a few months later, but by December 2012, they were officially over. When asked why she married her husband so soon after her relationship with Cooper, Saldana stated that she had "found all my answers with him," meaning that she had found what she needed in Perego,

Though her time alone was short, Saldana described being single as "bliss," saying that she learned not to be afraid of being alone.

Though Cooper and Saldana do star together in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, his work is largely through voice-overs, as his character is a cute little CGI raccoon, so at least they don't always have to see each other on set.

Dated: Tom Hiddleston And Kat Dennings

Everyone remembers the media storm that was Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift's brief but impactful relationship.

Hiddleston may be one of the most recognizable stars on the face of the planet thanks to his starring role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the mischievous god Loki, but the actor was apparently ill-prepared for the crazy stardom levels of Swift and what it would mean for their relationship.

Photos and rumors did affect another brief relationship, however-- the one between Hiddleston and Thor co-star Kat Dennings. The actress played Jane Foster's best friend, Darcy Lewis, in both Thor and Thor: The Dark World.

The relationship between Hiddleston and Dennings was quite brief, seemingly more of a fling than an actual partnership. The two Marvel co-stars were spotted getting close at Comic-Con, which, as we all know, has been the indicator of other co-star couplings that were long-rumored but kept under wraps (looking at you, Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart).

Pictures were later circulated of Hiddleson and Dennings holding hands. Like with many other high profile stars, the two never actually confirmed that they were dating.

They were not seen together following the hand-holding photos. Dennings made the news in 2016 after breaking up with boyfriend Josh Groban after two years of dating.

Just Friends: Hayley Atwell And Stephen Merchant

Hayley Atwell, star of Captain America and Marvel's Agent Carter ,settled down with the boy next door. Late in 2017, Atwell announced her intention to spend the rest of her life with an unnamed doctor who she had known since childhood.

She claimed to have known her beau since he was ten years old, and was quite excited about finally meeting the one. The actress revealed that she wanted to keep herself from becoming too wrapped up in her husband, though. She said that she felt like it was wonderful to be so deeply in love, but that the relationship would suffer if she became too dependent on her partner.

However, before she made the leap with her childhood friend, Atwell was linked to The Office creator Stephen Merchant. Though many rumors were going around at the time, Atwell denied anything between them.

There isn't a lot of information out there about the alleged relationship between Atwell and Merchant. It was reported that the two were in a car accident in 2015, but other reports seem to indicate that this event never actually took place.

Merchant has long been a presence in Hollywood, largely behind the scenes as a producer and writer. He has, however, lent his acting abilities to many movies and TV shows throughout the years, including The OfficeHot Fuzz, and The Big Bang Theory.

Merchant recently co-starred alongside Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart as Caliban in the gritty X-Men movie, Logan.
