Marvel's Spider-Man 2 should have a Spider-Gwen spinoff instead of a Miles Morales one. The Miles Morales spinoff based on the universe of the original Marvel's Spider-Man was a smash hit with critics and audiences, as material starring Miles Morales tends to be. However, this time around, the spinoff should go to the other most famous Spider, Spider-Gwen.

Gwen Stacy hails from a universe where it was she who was bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Peter, who subsequently became The Lizard. Other differences include Matt Murdock being a villainous henchman to The Kingpin, and Captain America being a black woman who was never frozen in ice. Although it seems like the new Spider-Man game is setting up another Miles Morales game, what it should be doing is setting up the debut of Spider-Gwen into this universe.

Gwen Stacy is one of the most popular reinventions of a character that Marvel has ever done, immediately appealing to both young and old readers alike. She's also been a big hit with general audiences, as her appearance in Into The Spiderverse earned her many new fans. Insomniac would be crazy not to lean into that and introduce Spider-Gwen into its world.

What A Spider-Gwen Game Could Look Like

Marvels Spiderman 2 Needs Spider Gwen New Powers Gameplay Miles Morales Peter Parker

Naturally, this begs the question of what would separate a Spider-Gwen game from the other two, besides finally answering fans' questions of where Gwen is in Insomniac's Spiderverse. There are actually a few different directions it could go in. For example, since a Spider-Gwen game would inevitably introduce the multiverse into the Insomniac Spider-Man canon, a Spider-Gwen game could focus on her traveling dimensions, maybe even revolving around her clashing with The Inheritors.

As for gameplay, Spider-Gwen would provide a nice middle ground between Miles and Peter, being experienced in being a superheroine, but not quite as experienced as Peter. Also, since she isn't as tech savvy as the other two, her combat could be more focused on her athletics and any crude DIY gadgets she puts together. Like Miles Morales before it, though, this spinoff should find a way to forget Peter and Miles, to let Gwen stand on her own.

There's been nothing official said as of yet about whether or not Spider-Gwen will ever make an appearance, but Gwen really should be a part of the Insomniac Spider-Man universe. The Spidey multiverse is something that every Spider-Man interpretation needs to get around to at some point, as seen with the MCU and Into The Spiderverse, and Spider-Gwen is the best incentive to do so due to her popularity. Giving Spider-Gwen her own spinoff game is something Marvel's Spider-Man 2 would definitely benefit from.
