Insomniac Games officially announced Marvel's Spider-Man 2 during the PlayStation Showcase, teasing Venom and Kraven as the primary antagonists in the process. It seemed obvious that Insomniac Games was working on Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but it was unclear of when it would be announced, let alone released. Insomniac decided to confirm the game and also tease where the story will be taking Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

Earlier this summer, Miles Morales actor Nadji Jeter seemingly leaked that the Spider-Man sequel was in production after posting a picture of himself on set. At the time, it really just confirmed that the game is currently in development, which wasn't a huge surprise to anyone. Both of the Spider-Man games released by Insomniac have been big hits and they both set up a rather significant story for the sequel. With that said, it seems like Insomniac will be tackling some of Spidey's greatest villains in the upcoming PlayStation exclusive sequel.

During the PlayStation Showcase, Sony debuted the first trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which will be exclusive to PlayStation 5. The trailer features a voice-over from a character that sounds like Kraven the Hunter, one of Spidey's most notorious villains. It seems clear he's looking for the most dangerous game and has found it in both Miles Morales and Peter Parker, but there's a third character who may exceed Kraven's skills: Venom. The character has been teased in both Spider-Man games thus far and it seems Insomniac is ready to finally utilize him. Insomniac also confirmed it's developing a Wolverine game, which will be in the same universe as the Spider-Man games, according to a PlayStation Blog post.

It's unclear how much time has passed between the last game and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but it's clear that Insomniac spent the time fleshing out Miles in his own game in order to make him feasibly capable in this game. Not only is Kraven a tough foe on his own, but adding Venom into the mix will surely for a massive headache for both Spider-Men.

Wolverine could also theoretically appear in this game to help out the web-slingers, but Insomniac may be saving that character for his own game which appears to be much further off. Actor Yuri Lownethal stated earlier this year that he hadn't begun working on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 yet, so it's not clear how far along the game is as of right now. It's possible Lowenthal was lying, but it still seems like it'll be a while before Insomniac is ready to share more about the game.
