Sauron, Marvel SNAP's newest card, just wants to turn people into dinosaurs. Sauron's ability, "On Reveal: Remove the abilities from all Ongoing cards in your hand and deck," is a nod at the comic character being a life-absorbing human-pteranodon energy vampire. Players can use Sauron to remove negative Ongoing abilities from cards that normally aren't utilized because their negative abilities outweigh their Power.

Unfortunately, Sauron is a Pool 5 card, the same pool containing Marvel SNAP's Thanos, so casual players probably won't be unlocking it anytime soon.

While Sauron does have a few cards it synergizes well with, it isn't a flexible card. If Sauron were to be added to a deck not built around its ability, it could kill the deck and throw the game.

This deck, featured by YouTuber RegisKillbin, utilizes Marvel SNAP cards which would normally be played alongside Cosmo, who has "Ongoing: On Reveal, abilities won't happen at this location" as an ability. Because Sauron's ability affects the entire deck, cards like Typhoid Mary and Ebony Maw aren't limited to the same lane as Sauron, as they would be for Cosmo. Playing Sauron to remove the Ongoings, then Shuri followed by Red Skull, and finishing with Taskmaster results in a considerable Power payoff.

Sauron's ability doesn't synergize with most SNAP cards, so decks built around it almost always have the same key players like Red Skull, Shuri, and Typhoid Mary. This deck, made by dekkster, only deviates by replacing Maximus and Vision with Aero and Arnim Zola. Arnim Zola redistributes power to other locations, which is overall the same mechanic Vision uses.

Once players have reached Collection Level 500 and unlocked Marvel SNAP's Token Shop, Sauron will still be gatekept by Collector's Tokens. Maybe new opportunities to play Sauron will happen as more cards are added to SNAP, but most decks playing Sauron are going to be almost identical for the time being. So Sauron might not be worth pinning in the Token Shop.
