Various rumors have swirled linking Alison Brie to the titular role in Disney+'s upcoming series, She-Hulk - and she would be the perfect choice for the character. Interestingly, many of the reports have stated that Marvel Studios is searching for an "Alison Brie-type", but why not just cast the beloved actress in the role of Jennifer Walters? There have been several intriguing casting ideas, but Brie is a perfect fit for the lawyer-turned-superhuman.

Brie is best known for playing Annie Edison on Community for the duration of the show's run. Annie was the youngest member of the group and an avid overachiever, as well as a bit naive. In addition to her time on Community, Brie starred as Trudy Campbell on Mad Men and worked on films such as Scream 4Sleeping with Other People, How to Be Single, The Little Hours, and The Post. She also co-wrote and starred in the recently-released Netflix film Horse Girl.

Prior to her work on Horse Girl, Brie already cemented herself as Netflix's go-to girl with her work on BoJack Horseman and more notably, GLOW. The actress portrays Ruth Wilder, one of the lead roles in the comedy-drama that follows a women's wrestling circuit from the '80s. The stunt-heavy project has shown a new side of the actress while her performance has gained acclaim and nominations for prestigious awards. Brie's work in GLOW alone proves that she's highly capable of portraying a Marvel superhero, but her entire career is even more evident.

Alison Brie's Past Proves She Could Portray A Comedic Superhero

Alison Brie GLOW season 2

Before she transformed into She-Hulk, which was due to exposure to gamma radiation from her cousin Bruce Banner (aka the Hulk), Jennifer Walters was already an established defense lawyer. In some of the more modern portrayals of the character, She-Hulk holds onto her sense of humor while showcasing her intelligence in the courtroom and superpowers in the face of danger. It's almost as if She-Hulk is a blend of Brie's most notable roles from Community and GLOW. The actress can clearly take on a comedic role as well as a physical portrayal that comes in hand with projects within the superhero genre.

It also doesn't hurt that Brie already has connections to the MCU. She's close with Captain Marvel star Brie Larson, and the two have worked out together to prepare for their respecting acting roles. Community producers Anthony and Joe Russo have also had heavy hands in the Marvel franchise by directing four installments, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Actors from the sitcom have a history of cameos in the MCU, but Brie has been one of the few who hasn't appeared. With She-Hulk set in the MCU, Brie's involvement could give the actress the opportunity to collaborate once again with the Russo brothers down the line - if they ever choose to return. She's familiar with them and they could play to her strengths if their paths ever cross within the MCU. Either way, a casting decision will need to made soon if filming for the Disney+ series is expected to begin in the summer.
