Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Avengers Assemble Alpha #1In the new Avengers Assemble Alpha #1, Mephisto's current plan to destroy the Avengers of Earth-616 would be perfect for his eventual MCU debut. While anticipation has been growing for the demon lord to arrive on-screen, the hype has likely become so large that he'll need to debut in a more dynamic fashion than simply showing up on his own.

In previous issues of Avengers, Mephisto has been the overarching villain for the last few years, planning behind the scenes and empowering other villains to become consistent threats against Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Most recently, the demon lord helped form and cut a deal with the new Multiversal Masters of Evil, a powerful cabal of villains who've been conquering countless worlds and destroying endless numbers of Avengers as they go. However, they've saved Earth-616 for last per Mephisto's request as he apparently has special plans for the primary Marvel reality.

Now, Mephisto looks ready to strike alongside the Council of Red, an entire legion of Mephisto variants from across the multiverse who've all agreed to join forces to end Earth-616. They're also seeking to destroy the mysterious Avenger Prime, the multiversal hero who's been building an army of Avengers to fight back against the Masters. As such, it stands to reason that Mephisto's Council Red has some strong potential for the MCU's Multiverse Saga.

The MCU Could Debut More Than One Mephisto In The Multiverse Saga

Mephisto's Council Of Red In Avengers Assemble

Currently, the MCU is in the middle of its Multiverse Saga, an epic that has introduced concepts such as multiple realities and infinite variants of the same heroes and villains. While the chief overarching villain appears to be Kang the Conqueror, Mephisto may become a significant MCU threat as well. The demon lord could certainly serve both the MCU's more supernatural and multiversal narrative spaces, especially if the Council of Red debuts right along with him. As seen in this issue, Mephisto's variants are the only reason he stands a chance against Avenger Prime at all, proving that the legion of demons is one of Marvel's most powerful threats ever.

Regardless of when and how Mephisto debuts in the MCU, there's no denying that his Council of Red is a massively formidable and compelling force backing him up and his nefarious schemes against the Avengers. Infinite Mephistos are certainly more powerful and exciting than just one. Avengers Assemble Alpha #1 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
