True Detective's Carmen Ejogo has reportedly joined the cast of Secret Invasion. Part of the MCU's Phase 4 plan was to utilize the Disney+ streaming platform by producing a full slate of TV shows to complement their blockbuster films. After delays due to the pandemic, this initiative began earlier this year with the premieres of WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the latter becoming Disney+'s most-watched premiere of all-time. Future shows include Loki, HawkeyeMs. Marvel, and What If...?. There's also a Secret Invasion show, reuniting Captain Marvel duo Nick Fury and Talos, in the works.

Confirmed to be in the development in 2020, with Mr Robot's Kyle Bradstreet attached as a writer and producer, Secret Invasion is believed to roughly adapt an eponymous comics event created by Brian Michael Bendis. In the comics, Secret Invasion involved an extended, insurgent takeover of Earth by Skrulls, a group of shapeshifting aliens who mimic some of Marvels greatest superheroes for several years before the overt invasion. The TV show, however, won't recreate the grand scale of the comic book crossover storyline. Rather, Secret Invasion will feature a smaller mix of characters, and the focus will be on quality storytelling instead of the quantity of superheroes. Yet, so far, Secret Invasion has managed to fill up its ensemble with some stellar names, with a True Detective actor being the latest to join the pack.

According to a report by Illuminerdi, British actress and singer Carmen Ejogo is in "advanced talks" to star in Disney+'s Secret Invasion. Just as for all other actors, Marvel is keeping the lid on the details of her character tight, although it's being reported that she will portray a secret agent who hails from the "same world" as Nick Fury. At the moment, it's unclear how Ejogo's character would relate to Jackson's in the show, but she will possibly interact with the former director of SHIELD on numerous instances.

Besides Ejogo, several prominent actors have reportedly been cast for Secret Invasion. Currently, Dublin Murders' Killian Scott and The Crown's Olivia Colman are in talks for mystery roles in the show, while Game of Thrones' Daenerys Targaryen, Emilia Clarke has already been finalized to starOne Night in Miami actor Kingsley Ben-Adir is allegedly playing the main villain and Happy Gilmore's Christopher McDonald is also onboard as an undisclosed original character. On the creative side, Let Him Go's Thomas Bezucha and Manhunt's Ali Selim have been tapped to direct multiple episodes for the show.

Despite the substantial progress, production on Secret Invasion is yet to take off. But now, filming should begin soon, as with Ejogo possibly joining the show, it appears that the cast has been more or less rounded out. Since the information about Ejogo's character is under wraps, it's difficult to predict how her casting would bode for the show. But there is no doubt that Ejogo is a talented performer who has mesmerized audiences with her acts in the Fantastic Beasts films. And though Secret Invasion marks her debut in the MCU, and in the superhero genre in general, Ejogo's credits span several espionage and thriller projects, which should come in handy now that she is being considered to play a spy. Hopefully, fans will learn more about her role once Marvel officially confirms her for Secret Invasion.
