Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed that Marvel Studios will return to San Diego Comic-Con after a three-year hiatus. Marvel Studios has a rich history with SDCC, with their first panel in 2006 featuring Iron Man director Jon Favreau, The Incredible Hulk director Louis Letterer, and then-Ant-Man director Edgar Wright in attendance teasing the studio's big plans. Since then the studio has dominated Comic-Con. Iron Man's first trailer made its debut at SDCC, the cast of The Avengers was brought out on stage for the first time together in 2010, and the convention saw the reveal of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, just to name a few iconic moments.

In 2019, shortly after the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Marvel Studios announced their Phase 4 slate at San Diego Comic-Con. Reveals included the return of Natalie Portman for Thor: Love and Thunder, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, and the casting of Mahershia Ali as Blade. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person version of San Diego Comic-Con was cancelled in 2020, and while there was an online convention, Marvel Studios opted to wait until the Disney Investor Day presentation in 2020 to make any big announcements. Marvel and DC skipped Comic-Con in 2021, opting for the second Comic-Con@home. As the date approaches for Comic-Con 2022, many were left wondering if Marvel Studios would return.

In a press conference for Thor: Love and Thunder attended by Screenrant's Ash Crossan, Feige revealed that Marvel Studios would be returning to San Diego Comic-Con in 2022. The studio will have a Hall H presentation at this year's Comic-Con, which is scheduled to be held from Thursday, July 21 to Sunday, July 24. No date was announced for the panel, yet given the past ones were held on the Saturday of the convention, that likely means the Marvel Studios Panel will be held on July 23, 2022.

Interesting to note is Marvel Studios also has a panel at D23 this year, with that convention happening between September 9 and September 11. Marvel had a panel at D23 following their Comic-Con announcements in 2019 and used that time to announce She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel series, meaning they could save more television-related announcements for D23 and have Comic-Con set aside for film-centric announcements. Although with She-Hulk being the next immediate project following Comic-Con, there is a good chance the series will be part of the panel.

As for the announcements, it is a safe bet the first look at the upcoming film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever could be showcased, as the film is due out in November 2022 just four months after San Diego Comic-Con. They might also give attendees the first look at footage for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and The Marvels. It was previously reported that the search for a director for Fantastic 4 is far from over, yet Comic-Con would be the perfect place to announce one. There also could be news regarding projects like Captain America 4 or the recently announced Thunderbolts. After three years away, Marvel Studios' return to Comic-Con should be a reward for many fans.
