Marvel's Runaways season 3 will be released on Disney+ next month. Initially released on Hulu in 2017, Runaways tells the story of a group of Los Angeles teenagers who reconnect after discovering their parents are part of a murderous cult. It's based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name, though the show deviates from the comics a fair amount. The show's large cast includes Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin, and Allegra Acosta. Ahead of the season 3 premiere on Hulu this month, Runaways was officially canceled.

The cancellation didn't come as a huge surprise to fans, though there was definite disappointment surrounding the news. All Marvel television shows have been canceled in recent months, from the Netflix properties to Freeform's Cloak and Dagger. This is a result of Marvel TV officially shutting down and being absorbed by Marvel Studios as the studio creates new shows for Disney+ centered around established characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Runaways was the last show to be canceled, though the original Marvel TV show, Agents of SHIELDwill air its final season next year.

Disney+ revealed which shows and films would be making their way to the streamer next month, and Runaways season 3 is among them. The entire season will be available on Friday, January 10, almost a month after it was released on Hulu. Season 1 is already available on Disney+, though season 2 is not. It is unclear if season 2 will be released alongside season 3, though for now the entire show remains on Hulu.

Runaways Season 3 Story

Runaways season 3 begins with most of the titular group looking for missing members Chase (Sulkin) and Karolina (Gardner) after they were taken captive by the alien Jonah (James Marsters) and his family, who are inhabiting the bodies of the teens' parents. As the Runaways rush to stop Jonah's plans, a new enemy (played by Elizabeth Hurley) comes to light, and Tandy (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone (Aubrey Joseph) from Cloak and Dagger make a crossover.

While it's disappointing that there will be no more seasons of Runaways, it's nice to know that new audiences can find it on Disney+. The show, while not being the most comics-accurate Runaways adaptation, has a lot of wild storylines that are exciting to follow, and it's one of the most diverse Marvel properties currently out there. Despite being under the MCU umbrella, it doesn't reference the world at large, instead remaining in its own self-contained bubble. The final season's cliffhanger ending may not leave fans satisfied, but at least they will be able to rewatch all the craziness that came before.
