Hulu has officially renewed their live-action Marvel TV show Runaways for a third season. As part of Marvel TV's ever expansive reach and moderate success, Hulu became the home to the first teen-focused series. Based on the beloved Brian K. Vaughn comic run, Runaways follows a group of teenagers who run away from home when they learn of their parents villainous ways.

The first season of Runaways was well-received, but the staggered release strategy by Hulu hurt some of its momentum. That changed with season two, as all ten episodes premiered on the same day to give fans the ability to binge the series as quickly or slowly as they pleased. The second season was another success for the series, but left fans on a cliffhanger ending as the Gibborim takeover was unveiled. After Hulu content chief Craig Erwich said that a renewal was likely, the fate of the show has been revealed.

Hulu officially confirmed today that Runaways will return for a third season on the show's official Twitter page. They made the announcement by sharing a fun video on social media starring the show's dinosaur Old Lace. There is no immediate word on when filming will begin or when the third season is expected to premiere, but those details will hopefully not be too far away. TVLine confirmed that the third season will once again be for ten episodes and even got a statement from co-showrunners and executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. See what they had to say below, followed by the teaser announcement.

"We are so excited to tell more Runaways stories and are so grateful to Marvel, Hulu, our amazing cast and crew and of course our passionate audience. Season 3 will be a magical time on Runaways, as we deepen our connection to the Marvel universe. We are honored to continue to play in the sandbox created by Brian K Vaughn and Adrian Alphona."

The renewal for Runaways is great news for the creators of the series, the expansive cast it features, and the thousands of fans of the show. What fans will be most pleased about from this decision by Hulu is the guarantee that the Gibborim plot will be resolved. Season two ended with Gibborim taking control of Stacey Yorkes (Brigid Brannagh), Tina Minoru (Brittany Ishibashi), and Victor Stein (James Marsters), while a fourth and unknown alien is believed to be one of the kids.

Beyond Runaways getting the chance to continue telling its story, the tease by Schwartz and Savage that season three will be "magical" and "deepen our connection to the Marvel universe" could mean big ideas are in store. Season two gave Nico Minoru (Lyrica Okano) the purple Dormammu eyes, so the cause of this and her connection to the Staff of One could be one of the major plot points next season. Plus, a third season gives Marvel TV another opportunity to possibly pull off the often-teased Cloak & Dagger crossover. Even if that doesn't happen, at least there will be more Runaways in the future.
