Marvel's Runaways Cast Reveal Easter Eggs On Show

Exclusive: The Marvel's Runaways cast talks about Easter eggs and comic references fans can look forward to, including Timely and Atlas nods.

The cast of Marvel's Runaways talked about Easter eggs and comic references that fans can look forward to, including Atlas Academy and Timely Coffee. The cast will be making their small-screen debut as a super-team later this month when Marvel's Runaways lands on Hulu, adding a young adult super-show to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Runaways revolves around a group of six teens who discover their parents are secretly villains, and decide to take action against them. The cast includes several up and coming young stars, with Ariela Barer as Gert Yorkes, Lyrica Okano as Nico Minoru, Rhenzy Feliz as Alex Wilder, Virginia Gardner as Karolina Dean, Gregg Sulkin as Chase Stein and Allegra Acosta as Molly Hernandez. These young stars are on the interview circuit ahead of Runaways' launch, and have revealed a few Easter eggs for fans to look out for.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Okano and Gardner revealed that Atlas Academy is going to be on Runaways, as is Timely Coffee.

Lyrica Okano: Yeah, I don’t know about spoilers, but like...

Virginia Gardner: Our high school is Atlas academy, and that’s obviously one of Marvel's original names. And then Timely Coffee, where we’re sitting right now, is also one of Marvel’s original names which I didn’t know until…

Lyrica Okano: So I think maybe we’re even unaware of some of the Easter eggs they’re leaving.

Obviously, the cast are being careful not to give away any potential spoilers about Runaways, but can reveal that a couple of location names are nods to the comics. While the name of the team's high school is not revealed in the books, the one in the MCU is going to be called Atlas Academy - a reference to Atlas Comics, an early name of the Marvel brand. Timely Coffee will also be appearing, another nod to an early branch of what would become Marvel (Timely Comics).

So far, the only Easter eggs that have been revealed are ones that only truly devoted Marvel fans are likely to pick up on; most casual fans of the MCU wouldn't be aware of Timely Comics or Atlas Comics. However, these are sure to be only a few of the Easter eggs that Marvel is putting in Runaways. From what has been seen so far, it seems that Runaways is going to be very accurate to the source material, which means plenty of opportunities for other references to show up. As Okano herself says, there are sure to be some that even they aren't aware of!
