Marvel movies have had some pretty iconic lines over the past 10 years. From the first Iron Man movie to Avengers: Infinity War and everything in between, there have been poignant lines, hilarious ones, and ones that speak to the power of humanity (both human and superhuman).

Of course, when it comes to quoting these lines, it’s easy to get them a bit wrong sometimes. Whether it’s forgetting a word, adding some words, or completely missing the point of the quote, here are 10 Marvel quotes that most people tend to get wrong and what the correct versions are.

“THE PRICE OF FREEDOM’S HIGH. ALWAYS HAS BEEN. IT’S A PRICE I’M WILLING TO PAY.”

This line is unsurprisingly spoken by Captain America in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This quote speaks to the essence of Steve Rogers as a character and is also about the central conflict of that film. It’s a powerful quote that can be interpreted in many ways, but it can be easy to get the entire line correct. This is a quote that is easy to add extra words into such as an “its” between “high” and “always.” However, Cap is a pretty straightforward guy who doesn’t add a lot of fluff here.

“ I AM IRON MAN.”

Tony Stark confessing his Iron Man identity

This line might be one of the most iconic and important in the entire franchise, and while Iron Man might be full of quippy lines, this is his most memorable because of what this line represents.  When Tony Stark announces this to the world, it really kicked off the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe and all the heroes that were to come after. Every Marvel fan knows about this moment. Be sure when saying this legendary quote to not turn “I am” into “I’m.” This is definitely a quote you’re going to want to get right.

“I AM GROOT.”

This short phrase is another one that people love to say. Starting in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie through to Infinity War, Groot’s iconic line is how he expresses many things.

When quoting this line, remember it doesn’t always mean the same thing, as Thor could tell you. Inflection and tone mean a lot since Groot is always expressing himself through this phrase or variations of it. But, beyond being cheeky, it’s “I am Groot” not “I’m Groot.”

“I CAN DO THIS ALL DAY.”

Steve before undergoing the super soldier experiment in Captain America

This is another Captain America line that fans of the hero will know very well. Steve Rogers says this line at very important moments including in the alley where he’s getting beat up in Captain America: The First Avenger and then during the fight with Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War. So, if you’re not a huge Cap fan, remember it’s “I can do this all day” not a variation such as “I’m able to do this all day.”

“WE’RE IN THE ENDGAME NOW.”

Doctor Strange in Avengers Infinity War

This line is one that gave audiences a hint about the title of Avengers 4 before we know it was Avengers: Endgame. Spoken by Doctor Strange, many fans have also used this line to theorize about what will happen in the plot of Endgame. While Strange wasn’t the first character in the MCU to use the term “endgame” as that was Tony Stark, this was an important hint. This line can be easy to misquote, but knowing the exact phrasing is important when trying to come up with theories.

“IN TIMES OF CRISIS, THE WISE BUILD BRIDGES WHILE THE FOOLISH BUILD BARRIERS.”

T'Challa in the UN in Black Panther

At the end of Black Panther, T’Challa says this quote while speaking to the United Nations. This is a powerful quote and reveals a lot about T’Challa’s leadership approach after he decides to open up Wakanda. This quote is also one that many people recognized as a tie into our own world. While many people think it says “build walls” as a reference to the border wall, the actual quote is a bit less direct and says “build barriers.”

“I’M WITH YOU TILL THE END OF THE LINE.”

Chris Evans as Captain America Steve Rogers and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes Winter Soldier in Civil War

This is the iconic line that has sparked a million fanfics for fans of the relationship between Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. This quote is one that the two speak to each other various times throughout the Captain America trilogy to signify their friendship and loyalty to one another.

It’s very important when quoting this line to not say “until” instead of “till.” Otherwise, people will definitely know you’re not a real fan of Cap and Bucky.

“IF WE CAN’T PROTECT THE EARTH, YOU CAN BE DAMN SURE WE’LL AVENGE IT.”

Iron Man has had a lot of iconic moments throughout the MCU, and it’s no wonder since he really started the whole thing. In this line from the first Avengers film, Tony Stark inspires us all and reminds audiences of what the Avengers are all about.

This is a rallying moment, and one that’s great to know how to quote correctly if you’re a big fan of the MCU.

“BURY ME IN THE OCEAN WITH MY ANCESTORS WHO JUMPED FROM SHIPS, CAUSE THEY KNEW DEATH WAS BETTER THAN BONDAGE.”

Erik Killmonger in Black Panther

This line spoken by Killmonger at the end of Black Panther may be one of the most powerful and relevant in the entire MCU. Black Panther was a culturally and socially significant film, and this guy-stretching line reminded audiences of the messages the film was really trying to portray. When quoting Killmonger here, just before he died(or most likely died), it’s important to know the exact wording of this insightful and powerful line.

“THERE WAS AN IDEA.”

Nick Fury comes out of the shadows in Iron Man post-credit scene

This line from Nick Fury is one that has been used in many promotional materials since it was said for the first time in Avengers. Just be sure to say those four words simply. It’s not “there is an idea” or “we had an idea.” This idea that was had was the beginning of the Avengers, and it’s important as Marvel fans to get it right.
