Marvel's Phase 5 won't introduce any new characters – for now, at least. The first wave of MCU films, collectively known as the Infinity Saga, reached its highest point with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, with Spider-Man: Far From Home closing Phase 3 and the saga. Now, Marvel Studios is preparing for the highly anticipated Phase 4, but what about Phase 5?

Phase 4 was announced during Marvel Studios’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, but there were no announcements about Phase 5. However, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige did tease some of the projects currently in development, and while he didn’t say in which phase they’ll be included, the safest bet is that they will be part of Phase 5. If that’s the case, then Marvel’s Phase 5 won’t have any characters that haven’t been introduced before.

Marvel introduced new characters on each of the phases from the Infinity Saga. Phase 1 was full of new faces, and Phase 2 saw the introduction of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, as well as Sam Wilson aka Falcon and Bucky Barnes as the Winter Soldier in Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Phase 3 witnessed the arrival of Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel, with the Wasp joining the fun in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Phase 4 will introduce the Eternals and Shang-Chi, as well as She-Hulk, Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel on Disney+ but the projects teased for Phase 5 are mostly reboots and sequels, essentially bringing no new characters to the mix.

Said projects are the reboots of Blade, Fantastic Four, and X-Men, along with the sequels Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Captain Marvel 2, and Black Panther 2. Of course, this can change at any moment, and some of these titles could be pushed to Phase 6 (like X-Men), and others could be added, so Phase 5 won’t be packed with reboots and sequels – and even if it is, they would most likely include new characters that will stick around for the rest of the phases, very much like Falcon and Wasp have done, just to name some.

There are still a lot of titles – both films and TV series – that Marvel hasn’t revealed yet, so it’s very possible that MCU Phase 5 will introduce new characters. However, if they choose not to, the addition of familiar faces like Blade, the Fantastic 4, and the X-Men to the MCU are exciting and interesting enough that it won’t matter if they are reboots of characters that have been adapted to the big screen before.
